Don't know much about them.

Can anyone tell me if they'd be seen say on Glasgow - Carlisle or Thames Mersey routes? If so, any idea on average length of consist and the likely locos hauling them?

Always looking for activity ideas! :D

The are literally found all over the country, and almost anything will haul them too, but the most common traction these days are 66s, mainly EWS, Freightliner and GBRf. I think a general consist length is about 15 wagons or so, maybe less, maybe more.
