I second that! 450s should be avoided at all costs!buffy500 wrote: Just as long as I avoid a 450 I'm happy.

Where do we start....JonPotter wrote:What's wrong with a 450?buffy500 wrote:Just as long as I avoid a 450 I'm happy.
They aren't suited to long distance journeys. They are outer suburban commuter trains designed to run stopping services and have a large carrying capacity. They work well for what they are intended to do, and likewise a 444 works well for its purpose, more long distance stuff. 450's are 3+2 for most of it, the seats are low and backrests high, and are not very comfortable for more than an hours journey. 444 seats are much more comfortable, and the layout is 2+2 , which = much more room, which is what a long distance train should have.
Doesn't beat 442 seats though, I could sit in em all day.

Following on from Rich - the gangways on the 450's are tiny, which is not nice given some of the people that board the traintrains2 wrote:Where do we start....JonPotter wrote:What's wrong with a 450?buffy500 wrote:Just as long as I avoid a 450 I'm happy.![]()

Also, seating on the 444s is enclosed - the doors are located at the ends of the carriages and there is a set of automatic doors before them, whereas on the 450s there are two sets of doors in the middle of the carriage and no doors to sperate the boarding area from the seating area.

I rode on a 450 back from Virginia Water to Victoria after seing Tangmere and it didn't seem that bad to me. I did sit in a 2+2 bit though.
I have ridden on a 444, once only I think, between Clapham and Victoria - so not that far.
I think the 450's more comfy than a 375 anyway.

Let's just say that when it comes to trains, you guys are doing better than us over in the US.
I really wish we had trains like the 450 to repalce the old LIRR M1s. You guys get carpet floors, cushiony seats, a nice and bright decked out interior and a classy exterior, you guys are so spoiled.

All of Metro-North is doing pretty well, I actually have plans to work for Metro-North in the near future (gotta get high school over with first, just 2 more years). They just renovated a few of the interiors on some of the New Haven Line trains.
Also, there's no such thing as M5, the M1/3 and M7As run on the Harlem and Hudson lines and the M2/4/6 un on the New Haven line and new M8s are expected to arrive soon to replace some of the older M2/4/6 trains.

dont see many 450 down in Basingstoke unless its during Rush hourthomascairns wrote:You actually rarely see 444s, they run on the Portsmouth Direct, and with there being 120 450s, with 17 more to come, 444s could effectively be completely OOU for a day.
