Lack of GW coaching stock

Unless I've missed something, I've not seen much in the way of pre-Nationalisation coaching stock from the old Great Western that has been created for MSTS. Someone did make one or two models, I know, a year or two back, but it seems not to have been continued. Is there a particular route that is the one to get that has some included?

It surprises me that the Severn Valley add-on has loads of GW motive power but not a single GW coach yet it does have lots of LMS coaches with reskins available! I would like to release a 1950s steam era activity (or a few) for the Paddington-Penzance route but it is presently very nearly all BR Mk1s at the moment and some Collett or Hawksworth rolling stock would relieve the monotony! If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful.

Many thanks

Richard

We have some here (but not many)
http://www.highworth.freeuk.com/mstsstock.htm#Pass

There are a few others that will come with the route CD (whenever that may be)
Robin Howell did a BR(W) ex GWR suburban B set.

I think the Bala hub CD may also have Robins Clerestory coach ???

Unfortunately there is quite a lot of GW coaching stock all tied up to the Highworth release, delayed by the route work. This includes 4 4-wheeled coaches in 3 different liveries, a 4-wheeled full brake and passenger milk van, a 1913 Toplight all 3rd in 1920s livery, a set of 6 1906 corridor clerestories again in 1920s livery and six B-set coaches in 1935 livery and early BR livery. Also a steam railmotor by Caldrail.

These coaches are all by Robin Howell and he's also put another more common B-set on UKTS although I can't recall if this is in GW livery or BR.

Tim Booth has released the 1935 Centenary set (13 vehicles IIRC) and a Collett 1930s all 3rd corridor in GW and BR livery which are at http://www.trainsimfiles.com.

I agree the lack of GW coaches on the SVR CD was a disappointment. I think there were plans to release some for the BATS SVR II project (which was to be set in the 1940s) but I have heard nothing about that for some time and given the limited saleability of MSTS add-ons now it may never see the light of day.

But I agree we could do with some more types of GWR bogie stock and BR liveried varients. If i get time ovber the Christmas break I may get round to doing that auto coach again.

I have the BR B Set, thanks, and its extended non-corridor family. And I have also found Tim Booth's coach fleet which still says more due in 2005 but I have never tried my hand at reskinning.

Another relevant question is how many people have the Fires & Wires and Severn Valley and LNER pacifics add ons? The extra coaching stock allows for some rich variety in the look of the activity but the question is whether to standardise on one add-on for wider availability or to try to approach some sort of historical authenticity - as much as one can on MSTS!

Short memory Martin.

I did indeed do a B-set in GW livery similar in shape to the items on UKTS. If anyone wishes to see a list of what I have or have not done have a look on my website http://www.aeshop.dsl.pipex.com.

You may need to be patient at the moment as the service seems a bit slow tonight.

I also did a set of Clerestory Coaches and a GW Toplight coach.

I've gradually been preparing a new set of Collett era coaches, which will cover a range of diagrams. Due to other commitments it will be a month or two before I can release any.

I also have plans for a selection of other GW coaches, from various periods.

Will you be doing any BR era reskins in maroon or crimson/cream?

Yes - I will release crimson/cream & maroon versions of each model.

David, I would like to find a use for the BR auto coach if you do get the time over Christmas. And for Tim's Collett coaches, too.

David and Tim

Did you get the opportunity to get any further?

Kind regards

Richard

I've made some progress on a new collett set...

These will use hi-res textures and have a lot more detail than the current model - and better than the centenary stock. Much more to be done though.

I will release these individually to start with, then compile a set later.

The new, improved Collet looks superb, and I must agree with Richard a rake of Hawksworths would really compliment the range, especially if they were in maroon as well as chocolate and cream. When I moved to the West in 1960, I seem to remember seeing one or two in 'blood and custard' as well. Fancy having a go?

I'll agree with Geoff about the new coach looking good!
