Loco offset after export

Post by jasonclarke »

Hi Guys,

Can anyone help with this problem, I have expoted my model of a BR Std 4 Tank and the loco seems to be off set along the z axis, ie to far from caches when coupled front first and too close when coupled reversed , see below.

Any help appreciated

Jason

What modeling program are you using?

If it's got buffers it's Chain.

If you have shape file manager I think you can adjust it with that.

If you uncompress the shape file and look in the options menu, then select shift, then play about with it until you get it right.
Hope this helps!

If you own the source file then it makes much more sense to fix it in the source.
You need to make sure the origin of your main part is in the middle of the entire model's z axis

Also - check the size parameter in the ENG file against the actual size from SView
This is what determines the coupling distance.

Don't use SFM - change the 3DC file.
Restrict to Z axis movement in world coordinate, then use the shift operation, with the ctrl key held down to move the main group axis.

I've never had any luck shifting stuff on the z axis on SFM..every time I have tried it it causes all the parts of the model to be moved in different directions. seems to work well in the x and y plain though.

Thanks For the replies guts,

I have tried moving the main z axis but it throws all of the animation out , is there any way to avoid this or do I have to re animatie it?

Thanks again guys

Are you trying to say something about my chocolate eating habits?
You can move the models around by altering the center statement in the eng file, and fiddling with the size statement to get things to couple at the right distance. Unfortunatley this wont work if the rigid coupling statement is used. I'm not sure what happens if you try and couple to a wagon or coach that has a rigid coupling statement in it, when the loco doesn't. I have a fair amount of experience with fiddling with these statements, if you would like me to have a look, drop me a PM.
Cheers

Thanks Jim, I assure you Guts was a typo!

The Axis point of Main part if off centre when comapred to the entire model , unfurtunatley whenever I try to move the axise the entire part moves !.

Cheers

Let me try fiddling with the eng file perameters...I might be able to sort you out without any major rebuilding.
