Think we want both in a twicn pack, if they both went in the same folder with the right file names space could be saved on file size making life easier for people :). Could do with a couple in BR colours too ;)

My understanding of MSTS Physics says if we are to get the full power of both units there will have to be a double headed .eng file for working together. So another reason to put them together.

You can make AI versions of them, so with either leading, the AI one can be tweeked.....but how? what has to be changed in the physics departement? more power? less power? what?

Hi Jim
I believe I've read, that as a pair they could lift a 20 coach train over the Camden bank with ease.

And on the "Royal Scot"...with about 16 on.

As for sounds...I still recommend the DP2 sounds

Hi everyone

I am really surprised at the enthusiastic postings about this engine.

I still feel the textures still need a bit more work on them.
Is everyone happy with the colours? As when they came out new they were black with a silver stripe, and silver roof and bogies. I have only seen black and white photos of these engines.

I have tried to get a clean but worn look to the textures, I think am starting to achieve this, but as before I bit more work in needed and textures are not my thing.

You are starting to loose me a bit on the "twin pack" thing, I thought I could just put 10000 and 10001 together in a consist, or do I mod the eng file to take into account the increase in power on the lead engine and now is the second engine just a "wagon"?

The project has taken me about 5 months so far and I don’t want to rush the last bit.

What I am going to do is concentrate on getting the engine to a state that I am 100% happy with, and then decide how to package it.

I am going on a fortnights holiday in a couple of weeks, so unfortunately release date is looking at early July'ish all being well.

Thanks for the enthusiastic posts, as this is a project I really hope to complete unlike a few I have had in the past.

Hi Keith
I think that the "Twin" thing is just because that is how they mainly ran on BR.
Basically, IMO that is, you need 10000 and 10001 as engines in their own right...so they can be driven separately.
Then do 10001 as a AI engine...which is fundamentally the same eng file but without the cabview line and cab sound line.(Although sometimes it does need some tweaks here and there as well)
This helps the sim to understand its a "helper" engine.
Hope this makes sense.
Cheers

I seem to recall seeing a B/W photo of a black shunter looking vaguely like an 08 with LMS lettering on the side... :-?

Anyone know anything about this?

Not quite in the league of it's sisters............. ;-)

This was a Midland Johnson 0-6-0T steam tank of 1892 (hence it's number), modified to low speed diesel-hydraulic traction in November 1932. It wasn't much use, and was converted to a mobile generator in October 1939, and used during WW2.

Scrapped about 1954 as "Mobile Power Unit No 3".

I toyed with the idea of making it for the LMS CD but never found the time.

THe LMS seemed to go in for 0-6-0 diesel shunters, with quite alot of prototypes being built, some which lasted quite some time, although I don't think many of any type was ever built

I think every pre-1948 company had some shunters in the 08 mould.

That's Maunsell's 1936 effort (delivered 1937).
pic from http://www.semg.org.uk/diesel/maunsell-350_01.html

Bulleid also made some - they made it to TOPS as class 12 (though numbered 15211-15236, and just to confuse things the LMS variant was class 11, and number 12xxx, IIRC).

I'm sure the GWR also had some 08-alikes. The only one i'm not 100% sure of is the LNER.

This is an example of the LMS designed Class 11 shunter......

Image

They were introduced late on in LMS days, though most were BR built, they are extremely similar to the 08, though i think wheel diameter is slightly smaller and there are som inor body shell differences.
