...now if someone can do some tube stock e.g. central or circle I can get the LUL route building kit ready.

Absolutely fabulous models! I was a guard on the District Line in the late 70's and remember the "R" stock well - only small criticisms (and intended constructively - no dissing at all!)

1. "R" stock were never painted red. The red trains were "CP" (Guard's position inside rear passenger car) or "CO" stock (Guard's position inside rear driver's cab)

2. "R" stock trains were always in 7-car formation - consequently couldn't operate Edgware Road - Putney Bridge services or the Circle Line.

3. The Driving Motor Cars of the "R" stock were mostly converted "Q" stock. They were painted a silvery white colour to try to match the unpainted aluminium of the new "R" stock trailer cars. These driving motor cars had different passenger window appearance ( 4 centre panes ) to the new "R" stock cars (like the model). Only a few new "R" stock driving motor cars were purchased in 1947.

4. The "CO" and "CP" stock were, once again, formed of rebuilt "Q" stock cars and these were formed in 6, 7 or 8 car formations. However, by 1978, no 8-car formations were used. The 6 car versions were used on the Edgware Road - Putney Bridge (or Wimbledon) shuttle and on the Circle Line (District Line operated on Sundays only exclusively by Parsons Green depot!)

London Transport were forever innovative until the Government began to carve it up. It is intersting to note that we had:

(1) An "R" stock with silver roof (monitoring if that had any effect on interior temperature)

(2) A "CP" stock trailer car with interior dividers similar to an open plan Mark 1 coach!

(3) An "R" stock fitted with Electric Door motors (passengers complained 'cos there was no warning air hiss when the doors were about to close and they were too powerful for them to jam a foot between the closing doors!

Finally - a very big THANK YOU to Richard Scott for producing this model - you've brought back some very happy memories!

Thanks Ian, your comments are appreciated, particularly as someone who worked on the real thing.

My main source of reference for the model was 'The R Stock Story' by Piers Connor, (an excellent and cheap booklet, get it from http://www.transportdiversions.com). I used the drawings and photos from that book. But I have since discovered that what I made was a bit of a mish mash of a number of prototypes (CO/CP, R49 and R to name a few). So I should call it an 'impression ' of the R Stock. Tim Hubbard has started digging deep as well and has uncovered all sorts of variations as well.

One thing I forgot to mention - What a fantastic job you've done on the car's interior view! It's absolutely stunning - even down to "glass" interior partitions and typical "LT" wall mounted posters!

Richard, please check your private forum mail. I've been trying to reach you for a few days. I have been working on a 3D realistic cab, sounds and eng file/controls for your R Stock train and am now at the point I'd like to release them, with your permission. Please advise if this is acceptable to you, and how you would prefer the updated parts to be distributed (e.g. total train update, update with just new parts, etc.). There is interest in these updates in the USA also (train-sim.com).

I am more than happy that you release your additions to the R stock (here and at train-sim.com if you like). If you want to release it as a complete package, with my model, that's fine. However, remember that over here in the UK a lot of us have limited bandwidth. So you might want to make an 'addon' version as well.

Richard -- many thanks for your approval to upload! I now expect to do so tomorrow, to both train-sim and UKtrainsim. I will also provide a smaller "update only" version, however the new cab contains detailed 640 and 1024 ACE files and is not too small.

I'm glad you like the cab view - the comperssed picture I uploaded to train-sim doesn't really do it justice. I believe you'll like the new sounds too. About as realistic as my memory allows (I'm an ex-Brit who used to live about 30 miles from London and rode the tube a lot in the 60s and 70s). I'll include a Readme-Update.txt that will detail all the changes (eng file) and new additions, and of course credit you appropriatley as the original model creator.

I'll release the kit as a Beta 1.0 and strongly welcome feedback as to its appearance and performance. I've based the performance on a 6-car unit modeling known parameters (e.g. braking, acceleration, top speed) as closely as I can. The TubePrune site was a good source of info.

My thanks to you also for creating this unit. It brought back many memories and its quality inspired me to try and create the cab and other additions.

No offence, but that cab looks nothing like an R stock cab! It's a C stock cab! Anyways, it will do nicely when (and if) i ever release my C stock reskin .
