NER Corridor Coaching Stock

Post by jonrach73 »

Ok here's a quick work in progress shot from 3DCP. Not very hi-res, just a quick look!

It's very early days yet with more detailing to go and I haven't even started texturing properly.

I have decided to do a sort of 'generic' corridor stock set dating from roughly 1907 - 1909.

While there is some info out there on plans etc, I can't find any info on typical consists - any ideas anyone? (even if there's some sort of accepted convention on stock formations that would do - e.g. first, first, restaurant, saloon, third, third, third, luggage / brake etc)

cheers for any info,

Jon

The make-up of any train's rake would depend very much on the type of service. Premium expresses would have more First Class, down to some almost all thirds that stopped at most places. Without any more definite information, I'd think the rough rule of thumb that still applied in BR days would be reasonable to work with: Firsts at the engine end, then restaurant, comp or thirds, then the brake.

However, in most of the photographs I've seen, only the top expresses were fairly certain to have a matched rake - most of the intermediate and stoppers were made up of what was handy, by the looks of some of them...

Your model looks as if it has the beginnings of something good, however it has a definite Gresley flavour about the shape. Did he take his inspiration from existing GNR stock?

Have you got the Passenger Train Formations LNER book published a few years ago? (Sorry I have only the LMS one).

No idea! But I would imagine he did. The NER built some lovely coaches, and there were some carriages built as 'Joint East Coast Stock' by the NER, GNR, NBR etc for the Scottish expresses.

Another quick update - I've done a little work on the textures for the carriage body. Still have more detailing to do - especially under the frames and on the bogies.

Colours are matched from colour photos of the NER saloon carriage at the Beamish museum but I've not tested them in MSTS yet.

2 screenshots - one in perspective view, the other showing the orthographic views from 3D Canvas.

Cheers

Jon

Brilliant stuff :)

There has been a lack of coaches and wagons of late - far too many locos.
