I know several original modellers who provided early items in the genre on here are now revisiting and creating new versions, so there must still be alot of room for expansion

There is still a long way to go, there is still plenty of steam locos to build and people are learning new ways all the time (including me) so the older models will always get replaced eventually (either by an updated original or a new model from a new source).

There is TONS of stuff not even touched yet, and not just rolling stock and engines but all sorts of scenery etc.

There's a real need for a lot of small steam from all over - most of the past models have been the big stuff.
Even some renumbered variants of existing models would help; more than one O1, R24, F4, J15, 4F, 4P, 3F etc...

The list of stuff 'still to do' is endless.

Ian, please don't get me started on the J36
Do you remember what happened when I wanted Maude?
But still, Ian is right, we need more scottish steam like the J36 and the Glen's

there is still alot of life in the game, take the class 31 model for example

It was probably about the 1st - 3rd available as freeware thanks to Kimsim and that in time got replaced to a certain extent with Paul Mitchells 31 and then with the latest offering from Bailey9531. the further down the pipeline you go in theory the better the models are, not saying there is anything wrong with what we have at the moment cus it is all pretty much top noch :D

I think there's certainly more models to be done, for example the steam buffs are missing a fair few locos, for us modern image modellers theres
some of the shunters that haven't been done plus there's several commercial products coming which covers some of the loco's but I feel it's the 1st gen DMU/EMUs eg: DMU Classes 101 & 105 need updating whilst there's a stack need doing plus I would dearly love to see a Class 309 EMU & maybe some wagons so yeah there's still life in the old UKTS yet I'm sure

Besides it's a hobby...

Also What I think though, even though Matt has been away in Aussie, we are hardly getting anything new on the uploads. I know his dad is supposed to be taking care of it, but I have been awaiting a certain set of headboards apperaing on UKTS, as I know the guy has already uploaded them, and at the rate we are going at I won't see them for a while.

And please, SCOTTISH STEAM LOCOS............J36....GLEN'S

Speaking in very general terms, steam had three phases - Company, Group and Nationalisation, with few variations within - apart from Bulleid's upheaval of the Southern - so for the most part it's not too anachronistic to have most of one's steamers in a single livery for a period. Yes, I know there were experimental liveries for a handful of locos, but you get the idea.
Diesel and electrics seem to have changed liveries every five minutes in comparison. BTC/BR Green had a couple of variations of general livery, two logos, three (I think) variations of yellow warning panels and a couple of different roof colours. Rail Blue was a little more consistent, but then we got privatised, and the likes of Dulux must have made a fortune!
MUs were green, blue, and multicoloured in similar fashion.
Passenger rolling stock was crimson - or maybe maroon - red and cream in about three different variations, chocolate and cream, blue and grey - then we got 'businesses' so we had several variations for InterCity, Regional, local PTE colours and more.
Now we're private, so every line, it seems, has its own livery, and that changes periodically with the whims of the PR types.
Freight didn't stand still, either. PO wagons from anywhere could be seen all over the system in pre-BR days, railway liveries have changed several times over the years and now we're back to PO again.

And that's only the mobile stuff. Think of all the variations in architecture around, and how it's changed over time.

Then, of course, nothing stands still; just when you think you might have caught up, someone gets a new franchise, introduces a new trainset or decides they need new livery, and off goes the whole bandwagon again.

Of course there's loads that can still be done. Pick a period, pick a stock type and I'll bet you'll find a hatful of possibilities. There's enough not yet done to keep an army of modellers occupied for life.

That's half the joy of this hobby - it's a continuing, improving and changing thing day-to-day.

Why don't you buy a copy of Canvas or TSM and make some stuff yourself - redirect some of that posting energy into a bit of creativity? There's nothing better than creating something and seeing it downloaded by the thousands and thousands...
