F4

A new one on the way, the Great Eastern M15, nicknamed 'Gobblers' (apparently they used quite a bit of coal :) )

Perhaps better known as LNER 'F4' for suburban and branch line services.

Oooooooooooh. Wonderful.....

Pleeeeeeeeeease will you be stepping back one letter and giving us an E4 soon, too?

Please very nicely....???

Incidentally, Jur, I noticed the Y14 has a Superheater factor of 1.18 in the .eng file; according to all the information I have, these were all saturated, in GER days at least and, as far as I know, to the end. Am I wrong?

GER Blue, LNER lined black and BR dirty - the usual, I'd think :D

Re. the E4, I don't have the drawings at the moment, BUT... I have discovered that the GER Society now provide all of their drawings on a CD for £ 20. That one will definitely go on my Santa list, so patience, grashopper 8)

I am rather cavalier with my eng files, I use the eng file calculator and leave everything I don't know as default! Don't believe anything you see in there, and feel free to make changes as you see fit. If you really think you end up with better driving/more realistic loco's, please let me know, I can always release updates of the models.

Hi

Steam Heat pressure is the amount of steam being used for heating the carriages basically.

.. so with steam heat on, you have to ladle in more black stuff to keep pressure. It's about this time of year that I realise that it's not cosy for the folk riding on the cushions without the steam heat on and that means more work for the poor fireman (go on, I need the sympathy, it's a rotten job ;) ).

Is that the kind of loco that worked Epping - Ongar until electrification? I know the EOR is hoping to build one from scratch if that is the case...

But that has nothing to do with the 'Superheater' factor, which is a factor of improvement in power output through superheating - and the Y14 wasn't superheated. Jur has explained it nicely, and I shall carry one with my physics experimentation.

Ummmm. 'Yes and no' about covers it. The Epping - Ongar line had vacuum gear push-pull fitted F5s - which were F4s with increased boiler pressure, different safety valves and a couple of other differences which wouldn't affect the appearance too drastically.

Fair enough. All I knew was they were GER 2-4-2Ts...

Not such an awful guess then!

I'm working on updating files for the J69, the Claud (he's basically OK) and the Y14, which basically only needs de-superheating, of Jur's works, and the two Trams when I get the time...
When I'm happy with them, I'll get them to Jur and get his opinion...
