Could someone make a Fairburn for me

Post by RobertM »

Hi all,

I'm a volunteer at the 'Lakeside&Haverthwaite Railway' and I have decided that I'm going to make a version of it for Train Sim.

I was wondering if someone might be interested in modeling one of our two Fairburn 2-6-4 tanks numbers 42085 and 42073.

I'll upload some pictures when I have found some good ones.

Robert, if you can provide the drawings it would be a greater incentive for people to make the model.

SOMEWHERE I have a copy of the L&HR with all track laid and DEMed. I'll hunt it out for you if you need it?

I also have a 'Cumbria' on the way.

Yes, Cumbria is a saddle tank and we also have anouther one called Repulse. You won't be able to see it for a while as it is having it's 10 year overall done on it.

Have you also seen FR20, it's the oldest working standard gauge steam loco in Britain.

Do you still have David (the saddle tank from the Millom Iron Works)?

If so, any idea where I might be able to find some plans to build an MSTS version from?

They are wonderful engines - just been watching a video with a couple of them storming up the 1 in 50 gradient from Bradford Exchange!

I'd be happy to have a got at building one if somebody could supply some plans.

I'm also going to have a go at Furness No. 20 at some point, having just got hold of some plans of the original and rebuilt versions ... though that could be some time in the future.

For a preserved loco plans are not totally essential, just get in touch with the preserved line ask if they can let you have access to the loco for a day or so, go with a tape measure, digital camera and notebook and your away. Drawings are useful but if you can get access to the real thing it could be a major help, plus it helps you pick up on parts that were added/removed/altered from the original drawings.

Don't forget to offer the line a donation in return for their co-operation, that way everyone wins :).
