Is the reference rail SUPPOSED to be offset?

Post by 33lima »

Trying to build a UTA railcar with TSM. Going reasonably wall so far despite being a complete novice.

Building the wheelsets, & lining them up with the reference rail, I noticed that this rail is offset - in the front view, the rail centre is offset several inches to the R as I look at it. This is immediately I load it, without me moving it about. Naturally, I'm assessing this using the TSM centreline and grid. :o

I notice the rail's guage is 5 feet judging from the TSM grid, which is no problem as my prototype is 5'3" gauge. I've seen that referred to elsewhere but not this lateral offset in the whole rail section.

So what do I do? The body of my railcar is centred. Do I leave the wheelsets lined up with the offset track, and the body centred, accepting the difference? Or offset the body to match the offset track and make everything offset?

Or is my particular reference rail, or my eyesight, skew-whiff??

Help appreciated!!

The rail reference is wrong, I have a corrected version on my hard drive if you want it :). Best thing to do would be alter the wheelsets to suit this.
