New Class 150 Model

Hiya! :)

Okay, I'm really going to try to get things moving. I've decided to get cracking on a new 150/3 model and completely move everything forward.

The new 150/3 is being made to different standards being both easier to export and poly friendly!

The train itself is being made in a different way to the old 450...which is making it a heck of a lot easier to export and import through DXF. The 450 was a really big girl and was a problem even in dxf format given its abundance in object files. Its all looking okay at the moment anyway, I've just got to work on the model for a bit longer as its in a bit of a primative state right now.
Still - its all good. Got the GMAX tutorial so we're off to a flying start, to say the least! :wink:

If there are any suggestions for a starter livery, feel free to say.! :wink:

i know probably no-one would agree, but an anglia liveried one would be very nice. and really appreciated :)

Looking good already!!!! I know I'm greedy... but do you have any further plans maybe for a remake of the 142... pacer family? :wink:

If you get rid of the ganway you could paint a Silverlink 150 :)

hey!

This is all great food for thought! I'll bear all these liveries in mind, I'm quite swayed to the anglia one to be honest but keep the suggestions coming. I'll make one without the gangway as well so we'll have the best of both worlds. :wink:

I'm concentrating on actually getting this project into msts at the moment and if everything goes to plan, this should be quite a rapid process. I'd love to remake the 142 and 153 and a nice 323 as I used to travel on them in the Midlands.! As with all my projects, detail is paramount so I'm going to invest a lot into this to make it georgeous. I hope it won't fail to dissapoint! Textures aren't a problem but if anyone lives in Anglia and would like to contribute a livery shot or anything random really , it'd be really really appreciated! But no pressure as I could easily render it all!

Well, its certainly getting there! I've nearly completed the body now, all we need to do is create the engines. The wheels will be added when I get to that stage in GMAX.

The above rendition is basically an untouched shot of what I've got in front of me. I'm going to add some vents etc now so keep watching this space! I'm going to use photo realism on this project to bring the whole thing to life - should look okay!

Looking good :). I do hope you will consider doing a class 323 as i see these units everyday in Birmingham when i am at work :wink:. I would welcome one one these units in msts with open-arms partically in centro green/cream with white and blue stripe :D. I can't wait until your class 150/2 is done :). Here is a suggestion sam (Matrix358). How about doing a class 150/0 3-car DMU in centro livery as a possible future project too :D :wink:. If want photo's of the class 150 just PM me and we can go from there. I have loads of photo's that you may need of the class 150/0 for reference/or to work from if you are interested mate :wink:.

i ***MAY*** be going to Sheringham on bank holiday weekend, so if i do, i'll be able to get some very decent front on pics, of an anglia 150, but maybe not side on, due to the narrowness or the platform, but who knows?

Heya Sammy, that sounds fantastic - the more we can produce as a united front, the better! Well, as you can see above, I've done it! All I have to concentrate on now is some impressive texturing. I was thinking last night - perhaps redoing the wessex 150 would be a good way to go, not sure though. 153 is deffinatly on the horizon and I can't wait to get stuck into it as I already have all the high resolution textures!

Sam, a word of advice - the wessex 150 available on uktrainsim is done in sections as are all of the 150 models available. If you want to get a side shot, you could just do it in chunks and we could replicate the texture and use a photo editing tool to change its appearance and make it less 'mirrored!'

The program I'm using is excellent as I have used it for ages and I can acheive acurate results very quickly. Its also very flexible! The entire 150 model was acheived in just 3 hours. And I had time to manipulate it afterwards as well. Cinema 4D is my base tool but I also use other tools to get textures etc. The advantage of putting wheels on last is so I can put a nice bit of work into them before hand. I think the wheels and undercarriage of a train is as important as the body and I won't be rushing it at all. As you may notice, the 150 is considerably higher off the ground than the first. I think this adds a certain 'heavyness' to the whole package!

The class 323 will certainly be done!
I have a project list now - its pretty much in this order -

150 - Brand new model with advanced photorealism effects and interior shadowing. Visible driveshaft motion should be included.

153 - Brand new model with advanced photorealism effects and interior shadowing. Visible driveshaft motion should be included.

323 - Brand new model with advanced photorealism effects and interior shadowing.

142 - Brand new model with advanced photorealism effects and interior shadowing. Drive shaft motion should be included.

Looking forward to getting stuck into this tonight - I've been at work and I'm reeeaallly hungry so I'll have something to eat and get going on it!

Hi Mate

Don't forget, almost all detail can be achieved with a great texture, which will make it work a hell of a lot quicker on mosy computers. Also, please, please, please, please make sure it runs in MSTS before doing anything else. Leaving it to the last minute, or even for leaving it until you done most of it is the worst thing if MSTS decides it dosen't want to run it. If MSTS dosen't want to run it then it dosen't matter how good the model is, it wont be much use.

yep, you're right!

Is there a way of grouping objects and reducing them in size in GMAX? I really need to do this urgently - I'll have a shufty at the readme but does anyone know how this can be done? I'm going to get cracking on the bogies now and will place in the pivot points etc. Cheers for the advice chris - I hope it works in msts!! :)
