Game Freezing Using Certain Locos and F4 or F5 keys

Post by streeter »

The Sprinter (156) supplied with North West Route CD locks up my PC when I try to use the F4 (map) function.

So do the Westerns supplied on the Westerns, Warships and Hymeks CD!

The Class 81 Electrics and the AM4 electrics lock up when using F5.

Has anyone else experienced this occurrence (at first I put it down to the new TSection.dat, then the new XTracks but narrowed the problem by a process of elimination!)

Please can any content creators shed any light as to what "tweaks" may resolve the problems?

Thanks for your help!

I found the F5 fault when I beta tested the 86 cab but nobody could figure out what was wrong.

I think the display is looking for a value that isn't in the .eng file

Thanks for that, ianm!

It's funny, you go through all the usual doubts and fears:

Have I cocked up the installation?
Is XTracks misbehaving?
Is the TSection.dat file flawed?
Is this new route flawed?
Has my TrainSim game become corrupted and needs re-installation?
Worse still, has my operating system become corrupted and does my system need a re-format?

It's reassuring when you find you're not alone!

Might be this bit of the cvf file...specified in inches of mercury....but is an air braked loco.
However I cannot be sure as I've altered alot of the engine file as well. :-?

Well! Whaddya know!

I had 713 consists which is obviously what was causing the F4 problem!

I altered the "BRAKE CYL" section of the *.cvf cab view file to read "PSI" instead of the mercury entry and the F5 problems disappeared as if by magic! I just tested the AM4 unit (which had the F5 freeze) and I'm now grinning from ear to ear!!!

Thanks jbiliton!!!

Well spotted jbilton.

I spent most of a night trying to solve that one and missed it.

I have now changed both 86 and 87 cabviews. (only two cos their all aliased)

I have 1306 consists and do not suffer any F4 problem, it does however vary from pc to pc, I believe the general figure is around 899 consists before you may hit random errors.

I just checked the Forum on http://www.train-sim.com and a program can be downloaded (freeware) from there called "Train Store" which allows you to have (seemingly) as many consists as you like. (It makes MSTS unable to "see" consists not being used in the selected Activities!)

I will e-mail the author to see if we can have it made available through this site!

I would also like to thank JBilton for his fix to the F5 problem, I installed the 86 cabview file into my electric loco collection when the file was first uploaded but it wasn't till yesterday that I actually tried pressing the f5 key twice, upon doing so my machine froze up and threw me out of MSTS. After much head scratching and conversing with Don Hinton I narrowed it down to my electric loco's and was all set to delete them and re-install them, just by chance I thought i'd have a quick browse of the forums before popping across to uktrainsim. So my thanks to your findings JB and for posting them up here, "Long live the forums"!
