Period Loco & Rolling Stok

Post by steamnut44 »

We have got some excellent locos & rolling stock available for download in Steam, Diesel and Electric although personally I much prefer Steam and the early Diesel Locos to the Modern Image.
Pat Daltons 1920s Skipton Route has to be unique, as it is the only Period Route available for MSTS which includes its own Period Locos & Rolling Stock of the Midland Railway.
I have a great admiration for pre-grouping Railway Companies, whose locos & stock once travelled on routes we have available. They came in all sorts of styles and liveries and were the forerunners of the railway we have today. (although only 1/3 route milage left of what it was in the heyday of steam)
It would be nice to see some of these pre-grouping locos & stock being developed by any of you loco builders.
Granted, there are some available, North Stafford, Great Central & Midland and maybe one or two other examples that I may have overlooked.
Would it be too much to ask for some North Western, North Eastern, Great Eastern, North British or any other pre-grouping company.
I would dearly love to be able to build some myself, but unfortunately my computer skills are very limited and beyond my capabilities.
I am sure there are many more Train Simmers who would appreciate some more period stuff.
Is there anyone willing to start the ball rolling?

SECR locos and stock are on the way, though not for a few months yet and I know of a couple of other pre-grouping locos in the pipeline.

I'm also finalising a few more of my KESR models which will gradually be made available on my modelling site - a few are already there if you want something in blue.

Period stock

Post by mccormackpj »

Oh yes, I am more keen on pre-grouping than on the Big Four. Well, and narrow gauge, of course. There are some L&SWR locos and stock available on UKTrainSim tho' I've not tried them myself. I think I saw that there were some other Eastleigh locos on the way, eg. a Drummond F13.

I would love to see GER Clauds and 1500s on MSTS, as well as GCR Sam Fays, NBR and NER Atlantics, L&NWR Claughtons .. the list is endless. Please don't think I'm being greedy - any pre-grouping stock would be welcomed! I am about to try the MR stuff on the S&C .. mmm!

I wish I had more skill (and patience) with building MSTS stock - somehow I seem to have the trainsim equivalent of 'anti-green fingers', if that makes sense!

I would like to give that one a go. Currently working on a Rio Grande C21.

See thread linked below for my work to date on a pre-grouping NER Raven 4-6-0. Progress currently on hold while I get a new PC which can handle 3D Canvas... (not to mention the stunning Skipton Route in MSTS!).

There is a fair selection of GCR locos around but only 2 coaches and they were made some time ago. Pat Daltons TRAINS folder is the best source of mixed pre-grouping freight stock, plus various items in the file library here.

Pre-grouping is my main iterest as well and I would like to build several routes set around WW1 but my current project has turned into such a monster that I don't know if I'll get around to another one...

Don't forget that although the GWR was one of the big four that it was also a pre-group company too. Most of the GWR rolling stock I have uploaded are from pre-grouping prototypes.

Almost all of Decapods GW locos are Victorian as well. But painted in WW1 livery or just post that decade. Available here or at http://www.highworth.freeuk.com/

Take a look on one of the French sites, I can never remember which one, there's a Highland Castle 4-6-0 in the coming soon category (They built some for the Ouest Railway shortly after the originals for the Highland)
