two colums of smoke ?

Post by digman »

Is it possible to have two colums of smoke for a double chimney by editing the eng file for a loco ?

Not sure it'd be worth it as from all the evidence i've seen the two merge together withing inches of leving the chimney.

Maybe Duckweed can answer your question as his BR Rebuilt jubilee Pheonix has a double chimney and seems to have the shape of 2 individual colums of smoke. Maybe some experimentation needed to solve this one

When I tried it on my double chimney King it wouldn't work. It would not tolerate two chimney effects parameters in the .eng file. It didn't make the loco fail on load it just showed the second of the two entries. I just used a wider column of smoke in a single entry in the end.

I have never tried this myself, but I would assumbe that it dosn't work, as the double Fairlie engines modelled for the Ffestiniog Railway route have a dummy engine to provide the steam for the second chimney.

Yep, it's true, this sim is full of surprises. Don't ask me how it happened, but it did and I swear none of this :drinking: was involved.

Yep it is possible, here is a beautiful example of a double chimney loco.

If you look closely at the double chimneys you can just make out two collumns of steam :)

Isn't there a crosti 9F out there somewhere that has two lots of smoke??? One from the normal chimney and one from part way down the boiler?? I think it was one of Kim Durose's models

Cheers

Dave.
