Modelling Programs

Post by MCTRyanMCU »

Hi. I know I'm probably dreaming in fantasy land as I write this!, but is there a program which you input 3 diagrams, top, side and front, into it and the program will create a 3d model just from looking at the diagrams? If not, can you recommend me any easy to use modelling programs.

Cheers

There are only three affordable choices (3D Studio Max is just a silly price)

3D Canvas
TSM
GMax

There is heaps of chatter about all three in these forums, if you care to search.

Maybe we should gather all the chatter about modeling programs into a Which? style review for the front page...

Well,

not just by looking at it. But with GMax you can make
3-sided loft extrusion from splines (lines & curves).

You can map the drawing as a texture on a plane and
make a spline rotoscopy from each side.
I don't use this often, but this loco was made using
this technique:

G'day Mike

Funny you should mention that..... I've been working on such an article for the last week or so and have just uploaded it to my tutorials page at the website below.

Feedback and further comments welcome.
