I got a new job a month or so ago and its been taking up rather a lot of my time, plus its corresponded with a general down turn in my interest in creating stuff for the sim.

If i'm really honest I just dont rate it, or i'm just not good enough, my best efforts still dont look convincing to me, perhaps msts2 will have some decent graphics and allow models with 100,000 or more polys.

The 37 project has become a bit of a millstone, so i'm looking to hand it over to somebody else, any takers ?. I can supply the source 3ds files, or I could upload them. The textures are a bit more difficult as they are large photoshop files, I could put the whole lot on a CD and post it if anybody is prepared to take it on.

I will provide some support, but it may be slow.

Well I'm sorry to hear that Mark and I'm very surprised to hear that you think that your not good enough. I (and I'm sure the rest of the train-sim community) will feel that your efforts will be missed as they are "top quality" models in which I am a big fan of your class 37/40 and deltic loco's....but the decision is yours and I respect that.

Many thanks for your excellent models.

I wish you all the best and hope you return in MSTS 2.

Regards,

40058.

BTW...maybe an upload of the model would be excellent as there's some real talent within the community....would it be possible to do the same for the Class 40 too as I'm looking for a disc version with discs removed to do 40001/058 and a new 40013.

Cheers,

Hi Mark

Your outstanding wor blew some of my mates away and they don't like trains!

You have done a great deal of work and you deserve a break if you feel it need be, i for one haven't played MSTS for a mnth recently as i just couldn't be bothered with it, i am doing a fictional route based on aberdeen - dundee and maybe edinburgh, but i warn you all it's FICTIONAL (ish) so may not be exactly right but i'll try my best with stations.

All the best Mark for the future

Jamie

Mark!!!!
I don't use diesels or electrics but I see your work on this site and I think that your diesels are the best around.....easily (no offence to the other designers..you just have that extra little 'x' factor..)
Have a break ,well understood, because of your new job and creative lassitude...but come back refreshed...you are a big part of the UK train sim community.
Best wishes.

Mark's models of diesels are certainly among the best we have seen although I wouldn't want to choose between his and Ian's (Crompton's) work. Everyone else, including myself, are playing catch up :)

There's only so much you can do in MSTS and I would guess that Mark is the sort of chap who wants to continue to improve his models. That's not easy without problems for all those without the fastest PC's. The lack of information about MSTS2 and compatibility with MSTS is not helping.

The uncertainty over MSTS2 and the growth of the commercial sector is causing freeware modellers to reflect on their plans for the future.

Mark has a private life and I would urge respect for that. No one can produce work of quality if the enthusiasm isn't there and that can come and go. His contribution to this site exclusively should be appreciated and I hope to see more of his models but only when and if he regains the pleasure of making them.

Well Mark I'm very sorry to see you leave, but I know exactly how you feel, and I just wanted to wish you the best of luck in the future. I'm sure we'll see you back at some point.

Thank you all for your kind comments.

I'm not planning to stop for good at this point, just take a break and think about what to do next, i'm sure i'll do more but not such large projects as the 37 with all its variants has truned out to be.

I have just uploaded the last 37 that had been hanging about the works for a while, when it came time to test it in msts I found i'd forgotten how to drive!

I have also uploaded a source 3ds file (including all the bits for the different variants) and textures that should allow some brave soul to pick up the project and carry it on... any takers ?(check out the readme.txt).

Just a thought here Mark.....if you're looking for smaller projects for the future...may I suggest the "Baby Deltics" only a fleet of ten, 1 blue, rest green, disc and centre box version no great variations.

Just a thought....
