Hi There,

AWS

Automatic Warning System

Was an apparatus developed in the 1930's but not introduced wholesale untill the late 1950's.

Explained better than me here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_Warning_System

It will involve the fitting of a battery box, reservoir cylinder, timing cylinder and a coupling guard.

I am just numbering her up now as 42858 allocated to 9a Longsight (Manchester)

Have a little collection of pictures of the railways around Cheltenham and I don't recall seeing that many Crabs amongst them. That said, my interest lies more with the Western Region lines and I guess branchlines and passenger workings would have got much better coverage in photos than the more mundane traffic the Crabs worked...

Hi,

I found that 42822 was fitted with Lentz rotary cam poppet valves (Feb 1932), and Reidinger rotary poppet valve gear (Apr 1953). Would this require a diffrent model or is there no difference in the appearance of the cylinders?

Also I seriously doubt I will be able to fins photos of every Crab to see if AWS was fitted. Is there an alternative way to do this? I'm surprised they didn't keep records of AWS fitting on Crab as they seem to have kept track of everything else. :-?

Hi There,

The poppet valve versions and there were just 5 of them would need another model and animation.

Known AWS fittes Locos according to their history work cards.
