Hi There,
This is my main model project for the spring
a new Crab
First couple of shots of the Chassis, I mange to make a couple of new parts each day. The motion fitted so far is fully animated. The next pieces I am making are the crosshead links to the valve mechanism. I have fitted the mounting brackets ready.

Hi there,
I have run into a bit of a dilemma. The Crab motion although Walschearts in design, seems to be a little more complex visually than a lot of other classes.
I have animated the reverse link ok and I have animated the crosshead/combination link ok.
My problem is that the reverse valve control rod which is highlighted in bright green needs to be animated with the reverse link because of the way it is attached to the reverse link just above the bracket. Then there is the problem with the other end where it is attached to the top of the combination link. Do I let it slide back and forward behind and link it to the valves operating rod( to be fitted) to give a latereal motion..
There is also a link part of the way along the valve control rod which is attached to the reverser bar from the cab which adjusts the height of the valve control rod.
If anyone has a moving clip of the East Lancs engine or a clip of a Bachman model to see how they dealt with it, or if anyone has seen this motion working.
Please
Mick

Hi Mick, I let this rod slide back and forward though the movement is quite minimal. If you have a look at one of my Royal Scots animated in Shape view you can just make it out - you'll need to zoom in close.

Hi There,
Just an update,
The building up of the main shape is going well. The chassis has exported to the sim ok with all of its animations.
The boiler outline is now complete so I will move onto the cab shape next.

Thanks Jon,
I have built the Cab Structure so the loco outline is now complete and ready for the rest of the fitting out. I have temporaily coupled it up to a Black5 tender untill I get to re-build one into a Fowler tender.
I have made an export to the sim to make sure the shape is ok and without errors. So far so good.

Hi There,
The textures are being made. The smokebox, boiler and firebox templates are complete with the smoke box sides rivited. I think I have got the boiler banding in the right place. The model is currently 29650 polys.

That's a properly "Dressed" Crab Mick, first class job done (as usual), very well done mate.
Any chance of adding some "Mud Hole" doors to the boiler, then we can have a "Mud Crab".

Very nice model. Strangely a bit like the preserved 'stanier crab' 2968- your model looks a lot more aesthetically pleasing with a stanier tender. And I bet it wouldn't be as drafty running tender first either!
