Here is something new from the wagon works.

(1) Who can tell me what it is? :D

(2) When that is figured out, any volunteers or suggestions for help with the freight anim...?

I would take that suggestion and amend to chickens.

Bah!

It's a sheep van.

Very nice too but I question the right facing brake lever.

Can't help with the load. The model ran away.
Shouldn't have worn the wellies.

Bah!

It's a sheep van.
You got it Ian, HR double deck sheep wagon.

I was not sure about the brake lever. It is left facing on the other side as in the drawing... I did not know if I should mirror image or rotate.

(Actually I could also use some help with where to put what underneath some vacuum braked wagons I am working on!)

So would anyone like to help or advise with a freight anim... How can I fill it with sheep?? :-?

Very nice Darwin :D

I dread to think how long the Alpha texture took to set up :o

John.

Would this help with the sheep :)

No alphas, I could not imagine making them work correctly for that. It is all solid parts. (Almost 7 000 polys in that wagon!!)

The problem with the freight anim is making the shape file.
I believe on wagon can only have on freight anim. So...

I need a single shape to look like a flock of sheep all squashed in together.
That could be harder to make than the wagon!

Darwin, the New Zealand Northrail route has a two tier sheep van with freight animations for the lower and upper decks. One is a freight animation for the wagon itself and the other a freight animation for a properly positioned invisible wagon.

You've given yourself a challenge with that wagon.

The sheep will have to be reasonably accurate since they are so visible.
Start with a couple of spheres and distort them for the body and head.
Once you have one you can copy and paste the rest and slightly adust each one.
The sheep in my cattle wagons are hard to see so they are just blobs.

You will have to watch the polys as a freight animation must be a single part.
Shape fixer will help with that but it might be easier to make seperate loaded and empty wagons.

All those bars are the poly eaters on the wagon. I would use 3 sided tubes as at that size you can't see the edges. Make sure you delete the ends of tubes.
I'd also use alpha flats for the couplings. You wont see them much in a train and they look like more poly eaters.

The brake lever would only face left if there was a cross shaft. At that period there might only be one brake lever.

What modeling program are you using?

Not that sheep get treated better these days (we still eat them after all!) but I was actually shocked that was a sheep transport! :o

Have you seen a typical lorry used to transport sheep? It's disconcerting when you pass one on a motorway to see them all crammed in. It's even worse when my wife is with me as she gets both upset and angry, and of course I get the blame!

Despite that it's always good to see new and different railway stock for MSTS and shows that there is still a wide range of wagons, etc. that can be modelled.

I had a go but the poly count is too high to get more than a couple of sheep in.
Even shape fixed turns it's nose up at them.

Yes, definitely, I have no problems with what looks an excellent model.

Well I am sure the sheep would be packed in tight just as they are in lorries now. So I am thinking of more or less a box shape and putting faces on the sides and legs on the bottom...

Just had an offer of some textures from the NZ wagon by BBS so that will be very helpful.

As to the bars they are all triangular open section already.

That is it... Brian's idea has given me a quick easy low poly solution that looks pretty good!

Now I need to do a bit of limewashing of that nice clean wagon.
