Hi Dave

I hadn't seen a problem with the chimney myself but I've dug out three photos that might be of use or help:

GeoffLoads of pictures here and good cab shots too.

As I recall 88 was involved in a bad crash and rebuilt? These pics show an adapter on the front end (under the smoke box) which was one of three styles used with different diameter boilers. Not sure if these modified loco's ever ran in S&DJR livery? Nice model of one of my favourite loco's though :D

I've got some pics somewhere that explains the differences if you're interested in making some variants?

88 never did wear blue prior to privatisation, it was built in 1925 and fitted with the G9BS large diameter boiler.
The packing under the smokebox was added in the early fifties when the engine was fitted with a G9AS small diameter boiler.
So the authenticity of the blue on the real thing is questionable?
Super model BTW Dave.

Beat me to my books Chris  It does of course represent an excellent model of the preserved loco. Some weathered (The S&D in Ivo's books didn't pride themselves as much on "turnout" as they did on Service and timetable?) BR ones with the right numbers for the boiler mod would be excellent and with the route due out soonish that's perfect timing :D .

Geoff

PS Now off to the bodyshop to get the car fixed after some little [add your own expletif] broke into my car and ruined the Swanage Diesel Gala for me when I'd hardly started filming and snapping  I'll dig out some pics and numbers later.

To me, comparing your previous screenshots with your most recent ones the blue looks pretty much the same.

In my eyes the blue on your model is a pastel blue.

Looks alright to me you'll never get a perfect match,(unless you use real paint)you only have to look in car brochures, and compare them to the real car to see even those arn't perfect a perfect match .

I watched a TV programme recently (can't remember the context) that stated that Prussian Blue was an extremely difficult colour to replicate - it's sort of a mix of blue and gunmetal. Without getting too picky, what you've done is very likely the closest you'll get Dave. I'd go with it. :D
