Strange Issues

Hi All,
I am currently building a series of standard gauge locomotives, however I ams getting some problems.
The model is 7134 polys.
On the Kent and East Sussex Railway Route in particular locations (Particularly Tenterden Town Station), it loads fine, however when I go to do anything out of the cab, it crashes MSTS. However, on the Ashburton Route, it loads fine, and works fine.
The file is all compressed to 347kb.
Any explanation?
Cheers,
Ben

Ben - try running it through Paul Gausden's Shape Fixer utility. Should be available in the file library or from his website.

Dan

Thanks Dan, tried it, and unfortunately it makes no difference. I can go 'outside' of the loco at Bodiam, but not at Tenterden.
It also seems if I couple the two locomotives I have built so far together, it is more unlikely to work either. I don't understand?
Just to show the (partially completed) model does work.....
It has been created with no disrespect to Paul Gausden's version, which I have used for many years. I just find it easier when re-skinning and things to have my own model.

Hi Ben
No answers here, I'm afraid, simply because I too have the same problem once I switch to an out-of-cab view - my PC completely locks up and I can only exit by re-booting.
The one common factor that I'd not realised until I read your post was that it only occurs at Tenterden. I've tried altering consists, cabview, and different bin patches but all to no avail.
Let's hope someone knows the cause and a solution, as I really like the K&ES route.

Ash, are you saying you've had trouble with other locos on the K&ESR route?
a shame, as the loco really suits the K&ESR route, although it is modelled as its Bluebell counterpart, and it just doesn't work as well on the Toddington Route!

I think the problem is more complex than we may think. The activities that are included in the route that cause my computer to lock-up are:
1. A1X Rolvenden - Tenterden
9. Heavy Freight Challenge
17. Rescue the Afternoon Pullman
18. Tenterden Shunt
All other activities run fine.
I was wrong to link all of my problem acts to Tenterden, as they all start from Rolvenden. Also, they use different locos. I think the problem may be down to an item of loose stock, but I can't isolate it...

Ash,
Have you tried loading the activites in AE, then editing them in some small way, such as adding a space to the activity description or whatever and then re-saving?
I've done that and they seem to work?

Hi Ash
Have you tried running the route through RR .... it could be a sound region tile error ?
Cheers

Good idea Jon (I hadn't bothered doing this because the route runs OK, it's just four of the acts that cause a problem.
Having done so, it seems that a number of global shape files are missing (and RR cannot substitute them from other routes). They are:
Global Shape file a1t1000r10d.s is missing from your route, no alternative is available in the other installed routes.
Global Shape file a1t1500r5d.s is missing from your route, no alternative is available in the other installed routes.
Global Shape file a1t500r10d.s is missing from your route, no alternative is available in the other installed routes.
Global Shape file a1t500r5d.s is missing from your route, no alternative is available in the other installed routes.
Global Shape file a1tpnt10drgt.s is missing from your route, no alternative is available in the other installed routes.
Global Shape file a1tpnt10drgtmnl.s is missing from your route, no alternative is available in the other installed routes.
Global Shape file road2l22deg.s is missing from your route, no alternative is available in the other installed routes.
Global Shape file road2l45deg.s is missing from your route, no alternative is available in the other installed routes.
Global Shape file road2lanet.s is missing from your route, no alternative is available in the other installed routes.
Global Shape file road2lstrt100m.s is missing from your route, no alternative is available in the other installed routes.
Global Shape file road2lstrt10m.s is missing from your route, no alternative is available in the other installed routes.
Global Shape file road2lstrt250m.s is missing from your route, no alternative is available in the other installed routes.
Global Shape file road2lstrt50m.s is missing from your route, no alternative is available in the other installed routes.
Not sure what these are but I have the latest versions of NewRoads and Xtracks.
Sorry to hi-jack the thread a little Ben, but I guess solving this might just help with your problem.

Ash, its absolutely fine! It would be great to get it running properly!
I think I may be onto a case solving idea anyway......

Hi
Yes sorry from straying away from the original topic.
Not sound problems then
I know there was a post about sound sources( which show up more on external views than internal) being on the wrong W tile, but RR checks and can correct this.
Those shapes should be in the global folder as certainly the road ones appear to be default.

Don't you just love MSTS?...
I've just loaded the KESR route onto my Notebook PC - Route-Riter found no errors whatsoever, so I copied it, via my home network, to my main MSTS desktop PC - guess what? exactly the same list of errors as before (which I've now discovered are Xtracks files). The "missing" files are physically present in my Global/Shapes folder, and I've even tried copying them to the route's own Shapes folder, but to no avail. II've also tried deleting my KESR route from the main PC and loaded it again, afresh, from the CD - still shows errors that the install on my Notebook doesn't, yet the files are all there. Grrrr!
I just don't understand how this can be - Route Riter finds no errors on one PC but an exact copy of the route on another PC has these errors. I'm therefore going to wrap my head in a wet towel to see if that makes any difference...

Hi Ash,
Just a suggestion!
Are both of your PCs using the same operating system?
I'm thinking it could be to do with odd capital letters in filenames; I seem to remember reading somewhere that one OS will disregard the case of letters whereas another throws a wobbly (technical term!).
Cheers,
Ged

Thanks for the reply Ged
Both PCs use Windows XP, both have MSTS set up identically, so I'm at a loss to understand why one shows route errors while the other doesn't.

Hi Ash,
Have you tried copying the 13 files from Global\Shapes on your Notebook, where there is no problem, to the same folder on your main PC, and allow to overwrite. If you don't get the overwrite message, that may point to the problem.
Either way, try running the Route again.
Cheers,
Ged
