The MSTS 1 Route Editor can be a beast to use, but it's capable of some amazing results, here you can talk with the wizards that are building some of the fantastic routes available and learn how to make your own.

Looks lovely though of course the train is too long. My Dad spent a lot of his youth watching the 44xx with one coach and a couple of vans or if there were prisoners to transport 2 whole coaches as the regular trains across Dartmoor to Princetown. I think Ingra tor was his favourite bit of the line.

Yes - Dave has recently created a series of stations which will replace many of those currently in place.
I cant wait untill this route is available, I live in Exeter myself and have always complained about too many South-Mid-North England routes being produced.
Now finally someone has built, (or in the middle of) a South West route.
I know it's difficult to estimate, but can you foresee a sort of roughly approx date of when the WHOLE route will be fully completed? i.e. late 2003, Spring 2004, etc.
Dave and I have been discussing the future of the Penzance to Paddington route. Phase I (Penzance to Exeter) is complete and track has been laid to Paddington via Bristol and via Westbury. But.... there is a problem. The problem seems to be that the route is so large and has been rebuilt so many times that it is now unstable. For instance, after doing a track rebuild, the resultant route may crash the AE. The remedy is to go back to the last backup and re-do everything. Every effort has been made to stabilize the route including deleting all the tiles east of Exeter ( that made things worse). Another consequence of the size of the route is that AE will freeze if you move the map too fast or zoom in or out too fast. Way around that is to tap the arrow keys to move the map, letting AE complete the map re-draw before hitting it with another.
It was our intent to add scenery, etc to the rest of the route but it seems now that we wont be able to, given that track rebuilding cannot be done. Our hope is that MSTS2 may contain diagnostics or other tools that will enable us to move forward with the route.
Functionally, the route runs just fine, fps usually above 40, signals are working, etc and the scope for activities is just enormous. Completion of the route however, as originally envisaged, is in doubt.
That sounds like bad news. This route is the one I have been most looking forwards to. perhaps It would be best to "publish" it in more than one part? If the Exeter-westwards is working OK concentrate on getting that one finished and later on work on Exeter to (say) Bristol Parkway. Activities could then be divided up into two or more parts. So a Paddington to Penzance could be done in (say) three parts. By the way, is anyone doing Bristol to Paddington? (not that I'm volunteering!!)
The Penzance to Exeter piece is complete and a CD was sent to Matt for distribution. However a frantic email from my partner telling me I had left out the consists/trainsets required is causing another CD to be made and shipped to Matt which should happen in a few days.
In no sense are we abandoning this route. We have put too much into it for that - over eighteen months's worth of work
