Were you one of those boys on the bridge BTWdwjoy wrote:To Saddletank ... I suppose I chose the 1950 era because I can remember avidly collecting GWR engine numbers during that period. Several pieces of the route are done from memory, such as Paignton Station with the iron lattice footbridge that every boy would stand on, waiting for the train to depart and be enveloped in steam as the engine passed underneath.

Nigel,NigelPenn wrote:Thank you Dave. That's great news. That's the part I shall be playng with the most and hope it looks realistic. It's one of the most scenic branch line in the UK and for those who don't know it, I hope the design will do it justice.
We will make it as realistic as possible bearing in mind the scope of the route - over 600 miles. Clearly, we cannot make every mile reflect reality. Our design guidelines are:
1. Reasonable geographic accuracy (lat and Long of the track)
2. Good topography (accurate elevation so gradients are in the right place)
3. Features which give the line its character - such as the Tamar Bridge, the Uffington Horse, the seawall at Dawlish, Paddington station, the palm tree on Lostwithiel station, etc, etc must be present.
4. Locate all stations, bridges, viaducts and tunnels.
5. Lower quadrant signaling throughout.
6. Include all branch lines that were in operation in the period 1945-1950.
Since I was born in Plymouth and Dave is a Cornishman, there are sections of the route that neither of us have travelled....so, we are going to use our imaginations and put in place scenery which we thing ought to be there. Inevitably, someone will tell us that we missed.
Nigel - if you have any photos that would help in the construction of scenery for the St Ives branch, please scan it in and email it to me.

Yes.... all the junction signals do have to be reset (in some cases, deleted and rebuilt) after a track data base rebuild. The way Dave and I work is that I send him a CD containing the zipped route at some significant point in the development process for him to review and test. That CD will have all signals functional. While he is finding my errors and omissions, I continue to lay track, scenery, install his models, etc and, on a daily basis, rebuild the track - thereby destroying the junction signals. This is OK because I dont need them, but it does mean that before Dave gets the next CD, I have to go over the entire track and re-do the signals. Sounds bad but isnt really - about 8 hours of work.gopher wrote:Hope you never have to reset all your junction sig's after a TDB rebuild. There must be hundreds.

I don't normally look at this forum as it has many promises that are not fulfilled but this looks excellent and on a wet Sunday night in November its cheered me up no end
I'd given up on anything appearing form this part of the World which has always been of particular interest to me
Hoever, I've promised to focus on my Narrow Gauge line which will bw done a lot quicker with this route in prospect
A very distinct part of the World and the Tamar bridge looks excellent
Having said that, please release it only when you're ready and happy with it.
The best things in life are worth waiting for.
Cheers
