Mosaic and Route Editor not talking to each other

Heya,

Seem to be having a bit of an issue with Mosaic, ive been happily plodding away terrtexing a new route project im working on, when all of a sudden the changes im making in Mosaic are not being reflected in Route Editor and visa versa. That is to say if I edit a terrain square in Mosaic the change does not get reflected in Route Editor, and if I edit a terrain in square in Route Editor it does not appear changed in Mosaic.

However whilst investiagting this I did come across an anomoly. I had laid out a lot of microtex.ace squares in one area of the route in mosaic, in route editor they appeared as terrain.ace squares which is what had been there before the edit. I removed all but the terrain.ace file from the terrtex folder, route editor threw a wobbly as it couldnt find mircrotex.ace (as i had moved it out the folder) despite the fact that it wasnt displaying it even when the file was present.

So it would seem that Route Editor understands the mosaic changes but does not display them! Any thoughts or suggestions? Have reinstalled Mosaic (although it didnt ask for the reg key again?!) but am running out of ideas.

Microtex.ace is required by the sim to give a grainy appearance to terrain.ace, in other words, it is used on the same tile in addition to the terrain textures so it must always be present in the Terrtex folder. I can't comment on Mosaic as I don't have it, but there may be a problem with the "t" files for the edited tiles (in the Tiles folder). I suggest that you replace the relevant ones from backups and start again.

Hmmm doesnt seem to have made a difference, to be honest im still at the stage where ive just got the track down and the terrtex was the next job, so only had one previous backup to go to. The route is only a fairly low mileage so didnt worry about a backup whilst doing the trackwork.

I think ill move everything over onto my other computer, and see if the issue persists, if not then I can finish off the terrtex work on there, if it does persist then I know its an issue with my MSTS/ Moasic setup, although no one has reported anything similar on the digital rails support forum....

Problem solved.... went to edit the route ref file, and it wouldnt let me save changes, :-? checked the properties for the file and I didnt have permission to write changes to the ref. Closer inspection revealed that the User Account Settings in windows had been turned on accidently. As the only user, and an Administrator, obviously I dont get permission to edit my own files (makes sense :( !)

Once that had been sorted, I gave mosaic another go as it dawned on me that this might be the root of the problem with that aswell, and lo behold it works fine! Thankyou Microsoft for creating an operating system where I cant save changes to my own work. :)

Anyway problem sorted!

Take some good advice and edit the folder security settings as I've advised so many to do.....it will work, and you can turn UAC back on...which is an absolutely sensible thing to do!
