Midland Main Line

The MSTS 1 Route Editor can be a beast to use, but it's capable of some amazing results, here you can talk with the wizards that are building some of the fantastic routes available and learn how to make your own.

Midland Main Line

Post by neilg »

I'm working on building the Midland Main Line from London St. Pancras to Bedford as it was in the 1940's to 50's. I'm starting on the Luton - Bedford section since that's the part of the line I know best. I'm using UKFS track, which looks good but is causing some problems because of the limited number of curve radii. If only UKFS had something like Dynamic track!
I do have some problems. The first is that I don't have a track gradient profile for the route, so I'm having to guess what the original engineers would have done as I go along, but it would be nice to see how they planned it. The second is that I have no signalling plan for the route so I don't know where signals and points were placed although I remember some and can guess where others must have been. The third problem is Luton (MIdland Road) Station. It was rebuild in 1939 in Art Nouveau style and I need to create a model of it but have only limited information (apart from my memory).
I wonder if anyone can help either with some of the information I lack or at least info on where I might find it. I live in Canada so travel to the UK to consult railway archives is not easy.
