Jerky Route Editor?

Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but I have not been able to find a suitable solution on the forums to this ( might be the words selected to search with are not bringing up any? ).
Anyway, I was wanting to make some custom scenery items for use in Scottish Central, for personal use....as many of you know I am from Fife so would love to add in some scenery. However, when I open SC in Route Editor, it is very jerky at every location, wether scenerised or not, at about 4fps.
Now when I run the route in train sim, it's fine, I can have frame rates of 22fps when standing with a 4-car 158 in Waverley when facing the gardens for example.
In route editor, most other routes such as The Severn Valley Railway, Highland Mainline, Glasgow to Carlisle etc... run perfectly smooth, with constant 30fps + . I tried creating a route file from scratch, in the area of the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway for sake of investigation, and this is also appearing to suffer from the same stuttering problem as SC...with no scenery or track laid at all!
Any ideas on how to fix this?
