Raising Track

The MSTS 1 Route Editor can be a beast to use, but it's capable of some amazing results, here you can talk with the wizards that are building some of the fantastic routes available and learn how to make your own.

Raising Track

Post by cardean »

Hi,

I've built a test track to learn about route building based on Couper Angus on the Caley's North mainline.

To get started I used the default height in the RGE.

I've terrraformed a second copy of the route using demex, but when I open it all the track is buried. :(

Is there a way to raise what I've built to the new ground level or will I have to start again?

RouteRiter does have a utility to allow the height of a route to be altered....but not having used or read up about it, I'm not sure if it will help with your problem.

I'm afraid you might be stuck with having to adjust each rail section individually.....unless someone has any other ideas.

From a thread back in 2***, if I remember correctly, the author of the Woodhead Route tried to DEM the route and found that a good percentage of the trackwork was now buried in the landscape or more than few feet off the ground. Again, if I remember correctly, the only resolution was to raise/lower each piece of track individually to the new terrain. After several frustrating hours with it, the author abandoned DEM as a means of correcting exisiting routes.

DEM is great when you create a route, but CAN BE A NIGHTMARE to correct an exisiting route.

Ouch, that sounds painful :D

judging by what I can see from the wireframe mode the track is buried fairly deep.

Couper Angus is approx 65ft above sea level according to the OS maps that I have.

Oh well back to the drawing board :)

John.

BTW. what are and how do you set up LOD's on a model using TSM? or can you?

DEMEX will allow you to generate the terrain with an elevation offset. Offset is in meters; either positive or negative is permitted. U-Pick-It...

As with many things, there's always a catch. The likehood is that the profile of your trackage, in terms of grades, will not match the DEM'ed terrain.

Another approach, but the same catch became apparent.

Maybe you'll be lucky. :)
