Re: Ts Tools 2
Sounds as if it is your PC not the product. Those errors can be caused by Registry problems, malware etc. I can assure I run the product on Vista with no problems.

Hi John
Doesn't sound very promising then, since I have no idea where or how to approach the registry with reference to this particular product - would be surprised if it was a malware issue though, since I've had no other problems at all since the PC was last given a complete bill of health.
One down to experience I think - shal have to fall back on the unaided Route Editor, though a little bit of extra software help would have been very welcome.
Thanks anyway !
Dave

Hi, It might be worth trying to reinstall the programme as an administrator. Insert the cd explore, right click on setup/install.exe choose run as administrator then it should install ok. When you first run the programme, right click the shortcut, choose properties then click the run as an administrator box then ok then start the programme & it might play ball.

Re: Ts Tools 2
Hi, thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately it doesn't offer me the option of running it as an administrator, since I disabled the User Account Control as it stopped me doing most of the things I wanted to do with MSTS. I'm reluctant to reverse that since it would probably cause more problems than it would solve....

Re: Ts Tools 2
I'm not familiar with TS Tools, but if it's not too fussy about where it's installed, try reinstalling it, but this time to a location outside the Program Files folder - the root folder of your C:\ drive is good. This will by-pass a lot of Vista's 'security features' including permission setting and administrator control. You never know...

Re: Ts Tools 2
It possibly could be (But by no means guaranteed) a Java problem.
Try doing an internat search for:-
msjavx86
and installing.
Then re-install TS Tools
(It's worth a try,)

Hi dwgowen5
I have a serial code sent to me by Dave Charles at the time when support was dropped for TSTools 2.
However: I run XP Pro which is fine, some have problems with java which can be sorted.
Drop me a pm and I will return the serial.
Regards
buckeye.

Hi Dave.
More on the Java problem.
Check past threads (search) java. Read what Dave Charles wrote recently.
Most registry databases are full of old java entries, they are updated auto every month. Remove these by running a search F3 for anything relating to java and java.sun, delete. Only do this if your confident with the registry.
Re-install the latest java and things should be fine.
Definitely worth the effort.

buckeye.

Re: Ts Tools 2
Hi everyone
Success - of a sort ! Downloaded the msjavx86.exe file, and installed the MS VM, but this doesn't seem to have made any difference, as yet anyway (maybe there are other steps I need to find my way through). However, thought it might be worth trying installing TS Tools 2 on my older PC with MS XP on it, and everything worked beautifully ! Now all I need to check is that if I went ahead and built a test route on the Editors and Tools on the older machine, can I then simply transfer the finished route file to my MSTS setup on the new machine by memory stick - or would it only work if I actually manage to install TST2 on the new machine as well ?
Making progress slowly - and would be completely impossible without the help - thanks again guys....

Hi Dave.
You are on the right track with the transfer, let us know how you manage.

Re: Ts Tools 2
Hi Buckeye
Some more progress - I think ! Using the XP machine I created a test route and laid half a dozen sections of track, and all went very well, even without actually involving TS Tools. I'd previously tried using the Route Geography Creator to try to set up a test route on the Vista machine (without TS Tools as this was the machine that wouldn't let me load it) - but every time it failed to create any of the tiles so I ended up with a white void instead of a green one....
Now - copied the test route on XP into a memory stick, switched it to the Vista machine and lo and behold it appeared in Route Editor with tiles and track in place. Only snag is that when I try to lay more track, the buttons and camera controls behave as if someone has poured superglue into the keyboard. Press a key and nothing happens - press it again and same result - press again and depending on the key involved, the camera jumps so far that the track disappears into the distance, or (if you're laying track) you add not one section but two or three overlapping ones. Finally managed to get the system to behave, but it's immensely frustrating and time consuming. So it looks as if the best compromise is to create the route on the XP machine, and then copy it lock, stock and barrel on to the Vista machine to run it, if that day ever comes...
Still it's a great step forward from the original situation when nothing at all seemed to work. And the fact that the old XP machine seems much better at this than the Vista one surely suggests there's a Vista issue here. Bit disappointing, since in all other respects Vista works very well for me, but there's always something lurking in the wings with MSTS and I'm sure this won't be the last glitch between me and a completed route. But thanks everyone for the help - there's nothing like discussing a problem to help throw up a possible solution....

Hi
Thanks Terry - I'll certainly try that - once I find out about how to go about it ! Doesn't show up why it only happens on one machine and not the other though...
