Re: BRISCARD V3 UPGRADE
Ash,
Here's the latest and probably the last for tonight, as this septigenarian is feeling quite shattered.
I have finished the transfer but am left with
1. A big 13,9 Gb file on my desktop that I sent across to MSTS, and,
2. A Train Simulator file inside the Train Simulator programme, which, I believe is now surplus to requirements.
Through Train Store , I have found that all routes are present., i.e. both the MSTS originals and the ones left behind when we created Rain Simulator.
Can I delete them both?
I have not as yet run MSTS as when I tried, it was extremely slow to start up.
I'll have a go if I find the strength.
In the meantime, thank you very, very much for your help and assistance.
I hope any audience we may have had , also found it helpful
Alan.

Alan
If your new installation has all your routes and stock, etc, located at C:\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator, then the job is done.
The Train Simulator folders within the train simulator folder is, as you say, surplus to requirements and can safely be deleted. however, i'd recommend that you keep the other one on your desktop until you've established that everything works as it should.
You should also now be able to install Dorset Coast without any difficulty, but come back to me if you need help setting up the bin patch to maximise your memory for running it.
Regards
Ash

Re: BRISCARD V3 UPGRADE
Ash, Now Monday am and it all worked until I put Dorset 3 on and it just stops before it's even set up.
The little marks at the bottom of the screen march along to the half way point then stop and the screen clears.

Hi Alan,
That sounds like one of your old routes has changed the Tsection dat back to a older version, what you need is either version 38 or 41 which you can down load from the front page, click on MSTS Quick Picks and then Scroll down until you get to the T section dat, then down load and install it,make a back up of the one in your global folder first, before you install the new one

Good to hear that everything works but strange that Dorset Coast still won't load up. I guess that eliminates the possibility that Vista security settings are the culprit, although that definitely would not have helped matters.
Some thoughts:
Try installing the latest version of T-Section.dat:
I assume that you're running it through Trainstore?
How long does it take before the loading markers at the bottom of the screen cease to move and it crashes?
Do you get any error messages when this happens of does it just return to your desktop?

One other thing to check is have you got "textured skies" ticked in your graphics options (I'm assuming that it's the loading of the route that is crashing and not MSTS itself).

Re: BRISCARD V3 UPGRADE
I have done as you said and run the route through Route Riter for a second time.
I received several messages saying that dirt roads and roads.s were missing.
I then stored all routes EXCEPT Dorset in Train Store, set up MSTS and IT WORKED!!!!
What will happen when I unstore other routes is yet to be discovered, but for the time being, everything does work.
Thanks again Ash.

Great to hear that you got a result! It's probably safe to delete you copy MSTS folder on your desktop now.
As for Train Store, many people (including me) find it easier to use it in "Easy" mode, but just selecting a route, then an activity, then running it. That way, you don't need to bother manually storing or unstoring stuff.
If you'd care to tell me how much RAM is in your computer, I'll go through how you set up Train Store to make maximum use of it. It's a simply procedure that will take just a minute, but should make MSTS run better.

In Train Store, go to the TOOLS menu, then select OPTIONS. About 2/3 of the way down, you'll see an option called MSTS LAUNCH SETTINGS....
Click this and a small window will open. The top box will show your MSTS path - leave this alone. In the lower box, named PARAMETERS, enter this exactly:
-mem:1024
Then click OK. This will allow MSTS to use the maximum 1 GB of memory that it can make use of, whilst leaving plenty left for Windows itself, background programs, etc. MSTS will run more efficiently because by default, it doesn't use this much memory. In particular, you should see improved frame rates in the Waterloo - Clapham area of Dorset Coast.

One further point, in the top box in Train Store's MSTS Launch settings, check that it says C:\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\TRAIN.EXE
This will then reflect where you moved your MSTS installation to during yesterday.

Re: BRISCARD V3 UPGRADE
Ash, Many apologies for bothering you again. I have had a couple of enjoyable days 'playing' with the working MSTS and decided to increase my available routes by adding Brum.
I wrote a letter in Problems for beginners pointing out that it would neither go through Route Riter (Not Responding) nor does it appear in Activity editor.
Any suggestions, PLEASE?
Alan.

Re: BRISCARD V3 UPGRADE
Allan,
You've been told the route goes into the routes folder and new roads and x tracks go into the MSTS Global Folder, you only ever need to load x track and new roads once, once they are in the global folder any other route you down will automaticaly find them, after you have put Brum-Bris in te routes folder check to see if it hhas a instal bat if it has run it,now you down load the patch, and install it as per the instructions, some where in the first down load you should find some activities and I think some stock to get you started.

Hi Alan,
Obviously you are trying to get the most enjoyment out of MSTS and the content available.
And so you should.
However please try to avoid duplicate posts as answers get confused. By all means, if answers on a thread dry up then try again linking the first thread so advice is not duplicated.
Good luck
Doug
