ADDENDUM.
Since I wrote the last note, I have found out that I had put the Asphalt platforms into the main MSTS and not the route.
I have put this right now and the whole thing is back to perfection again.

Thanks again for all the encouragement and pointers.
Alan.

Ged,
Sorry to be a pest!!
Since I wrote last, I ran a train from Bristol to cardiff.
On approaching Filton Abbey Wood station, the whole thing freezes with a series of messages such as

No extended shape data for Plat20mStr.s
No extended shape data for Platend.s
No extended shape data for Plat 10m.s
and so on.

I thought I'd cured all this but it works the same when I drive in the reverse direction, again when approaching the same station.

Alan.

Hi Alan,

Did you down load all 4 Platform Parts as I suggested earlier? and did you do them in sequence,
If you follow this to the letter you should be OK

Unzip the files to a Temp folder, i.e. c:\temp
Locate the Train Simulator\Global\Shapes folder and copy the S and SD file into this folder
Locate the Train Simulator\Routes\YourRoute\Textures folder and copy the ACE file into it.

Note the S and SD files go into the Global shapes and not the route shapes, the ACE files go into the Route Textures( in this case BrisCard Textures),folder, and not the Global Texture folder.

Mike,
I don't know how we 'amateurs' would cope with MSTS without people such as yourself and Ged.
Your solution worked perfectly and the messages have stopped.
The station platforms look better too.
Thanks a lot.

Alan.

Hi Alan,
I hope Mike won't mind me saying, but a lot of us here are amateurs! I haven't got into Route or Rolling Stock building - nor even Activity writing - I don't seem to have the right thought processes :o
Give me a problem you want sorting, and I'm happy! The members on this site, together with my own trial and error, have given me a great deal of information on the intricities of MSTS, which I use to pass on to others when the need arises.

I'm pleased you're sorted now :)

Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged & Alan,

I'm also a amatuer,it's taken me from 2003 till now to start playing about with MSTS,like changeing cabs, couplings, and just started trying to make activities, but have to cheat with them instead of haveing AI trains I just stick static trains at stategic places like stations, sidings and signals although some people have tried to help me,I just don't get activity editor.

Hi Mike,
That's what's great about MSTS - it's all things to all people! You can do as little or as much as you like, then find the level you are happy at, but you never know - you may one day get an AI train running, then there'll be no stopping you :)

Cheers,
Ged

Hi helpers!
I have now moved on to Dorset and have downloaded the complete version 3 from the site.
However, I keep getting the message 'Failed to load track database' and cannot create consists because of this.
I have added Xtracks and Finescale but to no avail.
Alan.

Hi Alan,

Can I recomend for Dorset Coast that you buy the CD from the site it's a lot easier than down loading it, also you get all the stock and over a 100 + activities, you will find that you will have problems with some activities as they need the stock from the CD.

Also you get a months premium member ship included

I do have the Disc of version 3 but when I put it through Route Riter, I get lots of messages saying that all road vehicles are missing.
If I try to run it in MSTS, I get a very quick message saying that a problem has arisen and Microsoft will contact me with the answer.
Alan.

What are the exact error messages from Route Riter?
It sounds as if the batch file may not have run correctly or you may not have textured skies ticked in your options.

The following message is received -
'BMW mini.s was not decompressed so could not be processed. Ace file missing from your route.'
This also applies to Ciroen Saxo, DAF Sherpa, Dump Truck and many other road vehicles.
I have run Bat file again but it makes no difference.

Hi Alan,
It looks as if your Dorset Coast installation is corrupt in some way.
I have just checked mine (v6) through Route-Riter and only received one non-critical error message; all the vehicles you mentioned are present and correct.
I have also installed from the CD (v3.4) into a temporary folder, and, again, the vehicles are present.
Could it be that you had previously run Route-Riter, but abandoned it before it had finished? I don't know the inner workings of R-R, but doing so could leave the data in an inconsistent state.

If you cannot solve this problem, I would suggest that you delete the Dorset folder from ROUTES, and re-install it; maybe other members could suggest an alternative approach.

Request to the Moderators - Since this thread has taken a turn away from the BrisCard route, to avoid future confusion, could the last few posts be transferred to one headed Dorset Coast, please?

Cheers,
Ged

Thanks Ged.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled this route and am still getting the 'vehicle' error messagges as stated previously.
Is it just possible, as you suggested, that I have a corrupt disc?
If so, do you know how or whom I could ask to replace it?
Alan.
