West Highland - Stage One

Post by bigvern »

Just to advise I have taken the plunge and decided the above is now ready for release. Please visit my MTS Route Page - http://www.trainsim.org.uk/mtsroutes.html

for further information.

Now taking a few days off from the Route Editor and dusting off the CD burner in anticipation!

Special thanks to Ian Morgan, Paul Mitchell and Mike Simpson for allowing their rolling stock vreations to be included on the CD.

At present I'm taking sole care of CD distribution.

If you're ordering by post you need to print the form off and post it, please!

Not sure if I'll eventually go to Oban. One possible option when I get to Glasgow is put in the triangle at Cowlairs so you can hang a left and head off towards Perth/Inverness however that's probably heading towards the realms of MTS 2.

No - Wales, but born in Newcastle which is (sort of) near the Border. However I have a love of Scottish routes, borne out of travelling around on free passes during the late 70's and early 80's. 26's, 27's, 37's and 40's - not a Sprinter in sight!

Vern, is the route set in any particular time period? I checked your site but it isn't clear from there. Do the stations, for example, have their steam era goods yards intact or is the track layout modern?

Thanks and cheers
Martin

Notionally mid 70's (Fort William is based on the new station), though I've put water cranes at Glenfinnan to cater for the steam fans.

I don't like to tie it down to any one period, largely based on my own knowledge and experience travelling over the route(s) plus available research, together with a few tweaks and changes to make the track work in MTS.

However I do like the old ScR blue signs which is why they pop up at Fort William even though the new station had "corporate image" BR signs when built. As part of the process modifying the Far North route, I'll be putting in some nice blue signs too!
