An annoying terrain problem???

Hi guys,

I'm trying to remember a trick that I used ages ago. Unfortunately, searches of the forum are not helping.
There is a value in the tile file that you can change so as to stop the terrain in the route from "moving" as the user drives past.
"You know, as you get close to a lump of terrain that appears to be across the track it jumps out of the way!!!"

I know that there is a value in the file, but I can't remember what it is or what it is set to?
I do remember, however, that the moment RE is used to make any changes to the terrain RE sets the value back to it's original setting.

Can anybody help please?

Every time I post with a problem on these forums I invariably come up with the solution myself five minutes latter!!!
I'm sure it's some some mystical mind clearing thing of asking the question.

Anyway, all solved now, sorry for the post.

Any chance of posting the solution Andrew? I'd like to know how to do this, for one :P

I believe Andrew is referring to the terrain error bias setting. A setting of '0' near tracks (in hilly terrain) will solve most issues with terrain creep (spills). Adjusting the error bias isn't required for flat terrain, however.

Yep, that the one Marc.

Oddly enough, now that I've edited the value to 0 in the .t file RE seems to be keeping it at 0???
I'm just wondering if this is not another bonus from MSTS BIN?

You can always use Route Riter to change the bias values for you.. saves a
lot of work. :)

Interesting comment about the bin patch, though.. I'll check that later.
Certainly without the patch, if a bias value is changed, and then you alter
the textures on any particular 'square', then RE resets the value to the
default '1' :(

Well I've deffinatly edited the .t file (used RR to edit) and set the value to "0" and after more editing in RE the value is still "0".
I am using the latest stable version of MSTS BIN.

I'm seeing a similar thing in plain old RE. Change the value to zero ......and it stays at zero!

No more having to save, exit and restart RE to maintain the value!! George has done something to RE......I know not what....but he's fixed something!

By 'editing', please try changing the 'square' textures within RE.
F7, left click to select, right click to set the error bias (to 0) save. Now open the texture selector window and change the texture. save. Now right click again and re-check the bias. Has it reverted back to the default '1'?
Mine does, with or without the bin patch :(

You're right, Terry. I get the same as you.

It seems that changing the texture resets the error biasing to 1......perhaps its designed to react that way!

Anyone who owns a copy of Mosaic can select multiple tiles by using the Ctrl and mouse, right-click the selection, and then set error bias accordingly. Best route building tool and time saver ever, IMHO. :)
