The narrow gauge rails are supplied as a separate track system. Once X-tracks is installed, 3' gauge rails will appear in the track sections menu with the prefix "N" and 2' rails with the prefix "UKN".

Any stock will run on any track, but obviously it will look rather odd as the gauge won't match! So the simple answer is, for 3' gauge track, you need 3' gauge stock etc.

Paul, when you say the guage won't match, does that simply mean that the trains will be shrunk to an appropriate- eg an HST the size of a normal car or will the wheels not go on the rails
The thing is I am looking to make a narrow guage route, but the stock I want to run is standard scale (2x normal size)

He means the engine will still be the same size but the wheels will be outside the rails, because of the difference in gauge.

You can re-scale the stock to the right size using Shape File Manager:
 | | | Shape File Manager Version 2.4 [14317 bytes] - sfm.zip File ID: 658 Date: 13 Aug 2003 - 3685 Downloads |

This is true, but remember to get permission to let the new versions loose on the world

Trains in MSTS don't follow the track itself, they follow the track database line that is obviously invisible in the actual sim. You can have the track 12 feet wide if you want, and it won't matter in the least. Derailments are not dictated by gauge either

I'm just looking at putting some 2ft NG track alongside UKFS. I have the XTracks NG track shapes installed in my global folder but I can't find the matching track textures - can someone remind me where to find these without reinstalling XTracks?

You need the Xtracks Route Builder's Extras. At most sites I visit, the file name is "xtracksr.zip". In it you'll find separate folders for each of the types of track textures.
The quickest way for me to get it is always here:
http://steam4me.railpage.org.au/trainsi ... ml#option2
EDIT: I look upon these textures as "place-holders", since I don't really care for them.

I make 3-foot gauge textures by editing out every other tie in a favorite standard gauge texture. In your case, rename an edited ACleanTrack1.ace to UKNCleanTrack1.ace. If you wish, you can simply change unedited rail textures from ACleanTrack2.ace to UKNCleanTrack2.ace. Then there's the UKNTrackTunFloor.ace to consider if it comes into use.
This might save you a 28 MByte download.
