Oxford route

The MSTS 1 Route Editor can be a beast to use, but it's capable of some amazing results, here you can talk with the wizards that are building some of the fantastic routes available and learn how to make your own.

No need for me to answer your question now Doc, but it has certainly upped the tile count.

If you go over the normal MSTS tile count (but not over the bin tile count) will non-bin users still be able to use the route fine? I personally have the Bin patch, but I remember there were some people who didnt want to download it seeing as its an unofficial patch.

The Bin patch allows the route builder to add more objects per tile, whilst in the Route Editor. It does not affect the route, when it comes to loading or running, as you are not using the RE at all. Once a route has been made in the Route Editor or even more objects added afterwards (such as the Blackpool Tramway upgrades that I did) will not affect the actual running of the route.
As far as running routes, the Bin Patch just improves the actual enhancements that the bin patch provides, such as the ability to change cabs, night cabs when entering a tunnel, steam effects on static locos, better camera views for 2 & 4 and better frame rates etc etc. You can still run any route whithout the Bin patch, that has been made by someone with the bin patch installed.
Obviously RUNNING MSTS without the bin patch, will not give you these enhancements, but it will not affect the route in any way, because of what has been added to a route, with the bin patch added.
It just allows the route builder to add more objects per tile when in the RE.

Some nifty flying Cessna models in the library today (thanks, emufarmer3!) gave me the incentive tonight to add a little more scenery to the Kidlington area, with Oxford airport close by and its aviation school.

This is our local road crossing, Sandy Lane - and (naturally) our kids' preferred route from home to anywhere south and west. In the distance is our local foot crossing and a favourite haunt of mine.

PS Before anyone mentions it, I'm aware those fences are rather in the way of the barriers ;)

Awesome work - I use Sandy Lane a lot (living in Begbroke), you have recreated it very well indeed!

Though circuit altitude at Oxford is a lot higher than that :P

I don't know whether you noticed, Michael, but those fences are in the way of the barriers

Fantastic work - it all looks so real. Maybe the Cessna has just taken off or is about to land and that's why it's a bit low.

Thought you might reply, Martin (Hodgson)! Yes, this Cessna is clearly in difficulties on the base leg...

Another nice update Michael, those Cessinas are nice models and add a nice little touch to routes that pass close to an airfield. Keep up the good work. :D :D :D

Slow progress over the past few weeks - an exhausting time with the paid job :-? Banbury is coming on a bit more:

The approach from the north (MT 66580 and E-rail JNAs):

View from Bridge Street at the north end of the station. In reality I think the units to the left are Royal Mail property (can anyone confirm?) - I've added some generic warehouse units just for effect for the time being:

Adjacent to the Up bay. I'm not happy with the station texturing: Banbury station buildings are pretty bland (a product of their time), but I should improve the concrete:

Excellent Michael, I especially like the person sitting on Banbury station. Creates a warm feeling that you are not completely alone in MSTS.

There are also some animated people, found at activitysimulatorworld.net, casually strolling up and down the platform - 'animated' in the MSTS sense, that is, not in the sense of running up and down the platform with flailing arms and grinning expressions.

Docmartin: we've got a different approach to our route-building, with me focusing more on modelling earlier on in the process. If your tracklaying skills are anything to go by, I have no doubt at all that your Banbury, when finished, will far outstrip mine! Incidentally, I ought to acknowledge the inclusion of your chimney in my route, visible in the first two screenshots, although I may eventually make my own or retexture yours - with your permission, of course! - as the brick textures ought to match those of the main station building.
