Zorcan,
I spent all afternoon going over the contours on an OS map in Paintbrush, and now i'm trying to register the terrain in TSTF, BUT it generates an error message when i put in the co-ordinates - Terrain cannot be more than 80kms in width of something...
I'm using the OS grid for input, and the following coords..
1) 490000 / 730000
2) 500000 / 730000
3) 490000 / 740000
Now they are a kilometre triangle, so what am i doing wrong?
James
P.S. Do you have MSN? If so can you add me,

The values you've quoted look to have too many noughts. If you're working with a 1 KM grid then respective axes values should only differ by 1000.

What would i put in the boxes then, just subtract a zero from the end of each value?

James,
Simplest way is to tak ethe (2 or 3 digit) number as it appears on the OS map and add "000" to the end.
The direct answer to your question is "probably" - it depends on the location as to how many digits there are altogether in each coordinate.

Found it, had an extra nought!
Now if only the bank could make that sort of error

OK just one more thing, I made a 5 metre error on my contours. Now after drawing all my contours out, i dont want to do them all again, so to avoid these cliffs i have how do i drop the ENTIRE terrain by 5 metres?

Height Adjustments

James,
TSTF doesn't have any facility to do this - yet
One solution is to disregard the problem - just continue with this 5 metre offset. you won't see any difference in the route.
Does anyone else feel that moving a terrain up or down in height would be useful ?

See the problem i'm having is with the rivers, because the terrain is at 0 already I cant move it down, the RE wont take a negative integer. ANy bright ideas on how I get my rivers to show?

Terrain heights

James,
Are you saying that RE won't accept a negative value for water heights ?
It certainly will accept negative terrain heights - my standard approach for creating rivers is to set the river bed 20 or 40 metres below the shorline height, which usual means a sunstantially negative height.
I must confess I've never tried to set water levels of less than 0. Can anyone else comment on this ?
I will add an offset facility to the next release of TSTF, so that you can raise or lower the entire terrain.
In the meantime, I can't offer any way around this - sorry

I've set a water height of -1 without any problems in RE.

Thats all very well, but i cant set the land below that! Which is annoying. How long do you think til next version Zorcan?

Negative heights

James,
Let's be clear as to your problem.
Is it that you can't set negative terrain heights or negative water heights ?
TSTF will set ANY level of terrain height, both positive and negative. When first setting up a new terrian, set the appropriate minimum negative height level, then simply use the height controls to adjust it for each contour.

Well, my route runs near to the river Thames, and so the land along there is at 0 (as it said on my Map) So i set it at that in TSTF and now the RE wont let me lower it to create the river itself. I want to offset the entire terrain by about 2-5 metres so I can dig out the rivers!
