I'm just getting into route building, and I downloaded TSTerraform, but the only trouble is it is very time-consuming, crashes frequently if you don't do everything exactly right, and seems to have an area limit too small for the route I'd like to build.
So I just wanted to ask if there were any other (preferably free) bits of software out there that can perform terraforming in an easier way?
I've searched the web but to no avail.
If the worst came to the worst, does anyone know how to do it manually? What files would I need to edit, and what sort of code would I need to enter to tell it what heights various points on the world tiles should have?
Many thanks for your time,

I suggest that you stick with TS Terraform - you can get excellent results and much better than you could by hand.
Try breaking your route into smaller map sections and use the tool's facility to extend the terraform over many map sections. Read the instrcution manual carefully and also have a go at the Interpolating Tutorial as well.
I find it's the best freeware terrain builder around.
