Maybe i have a dream?? Maybe it will never happen but those who really care for MSTS help those around them and im sorry but you are just not helping in the right way at the moment
Maybe i am appearing as slightly rushed but i will try hard with this and anyone who wants to help is more than welcome...
Thanks for the advice but unless you are writing to sign up... please dont post here,
i started this whole idea the best i could and im greatful for your advice. However now i really would appreciate if you either said YES or left it thanks

All I can say is...there is a bloke who can't build routes, models ,cabviews, sounds, or activities....but still manages to run a successful Addon company....so there's hope for anyone....keep at it.
Cheers

As for caring about MSTS, I have already contributed in many ways to UKTS, and am part of a new company creating add-ons, which is going well. I'd say I have some experience in the field, and know when a bad idea is a bad idea. If I were you, take peoples advice.
At your request I shall not post in this thread anymore, only watch with anticipation. Good luck with it...

If it doesn’t happen... think of all the time wasted.swt455 wrote:Maybe I have a dream?? Maybe it will never happen but those who really care for MSTS help those around them and im sorry but you are just not helping in the right way at the moment

I don’t have much too add, but I do see Richards points!
Good advice would be to get a good graphics package like PSP or Photoshop, move away from MS Paint and start small.
Jumping in at the deep end is not a good idea, lots of time is wasted and you have nothing really to be proud of!
As with the 458 thingy you showed me, you have to think of the real thing ask questions to yourself...
Why doesn’t my swish look like the SWT swish?
Is the white really egg shell brown?
Are the other colours really that bright?
Etc...Etc...
(Robert will know what i'm on about, I hope!)
Why not try something else?
Like a small depot route?
Being young and requesting a team of older people you are likely to be booted aside:-?
I will leave it there....
Kindest regards
Matthew
(Please don’t flame at me!)
O, just one more thing... i’m 15 years old... I started doing stuff for MSTS when I was 12 and have only really got any good at it!
Time and practice..... I have repainted over 200 items, 190 of them no one knows about!
I have built over 10 locos/wagons that again no one knows about....
Perhaps get underway before u post about it?
That’s always a nice surprise!
Regards
Matt

I would start small and take it from there, the earliest version of Highland Mainline I built years ago did not get released as I didnt feel it was up to scratch. I also did the Crewe-Cardiff line as a personal project and as before did not release it.
When I came back to MSTS about a year ago I started again and built the Highland Mainline to what I felt was a good standard, a fairly big thing to do but it was not the first attempt I had made with the route editor as I had probably 6-12 months experience under my belt.
If I was looking at a route building project I might be tempted to hold off now as the new sims come on stream. I personally am looking forward to TMTS as what Timcourt says about it is whetting my appetite. Just some food for thought there as I cant see myself spending much (if any) time in MSTS once the new stuff is out.

Generally, the way a routebuilding team works is this:
1) The main route builder has the master copy of the route and does all the terraforming, tracklaying and scenery placement. However I've know some teams who first had a terraforming specialist create the route and terraform the landscape and then pass the route to the route builder. I've also know specialists in say, signalling take the route, do the signal placement and then had it back to the route builder.
2) Other scenery builders produce models for the route builder to place.
3) and 4) Often one person builds locos and a second builds wagons.
5) Quite often another person specialises in activity writing which the whole team tests, this may include additional testers.
I think the above is more or less how most teams operate. Usually the route builder is the boss although that's not always the case, it's often done by committee
The routebuilder also builds scenery if he can.
Hope this helps
Martin

For my tuppence worth...
I have started my first route a couple of months ago of the former LNWR route from Ashbourne to Buxton. Why?
1) Because the pub I run is all of 2 minutes from the southern end of the track bed.
2) I have walked the line many many many times
3) I love the area
4) It is a route I would really like to see working, not only in real life but in MSTS.
I have had a lot of helpful advice here on UKTS and at the Midland Madness event. I have also had a lot of help with models from the MRTS group and in return have helped them with some track laying and knowledge of the routes they are doing.
My first attempt starting at Ashbourne has been relaid a total of 3 times so far, I started simple, wasn't happy with it, re-laid then tweaked as I became use to the editors. For a first project 18 miles of main line using everything from crossings, tunnels, stations on curves, extreme gradients etc has been an uphill struggle (excuse pun).
Have a go yourself, maybe even have a play with one of the default routes, download the tutorials from UKTS, play about and learn the tools. Take heed of UKTS advice on the editors, it will save you a hell of a lot of time in the long run.
By all means come on here and ask questions but I hink you'd be far better learning the tools and finding a route you are passionate about, without the passion you won't get past track laying, if that far.
Dave

I'll second that jpantera. Absolutely Dave, spot on and oh so very true.1975Supra wrote:a route you are passionate about, without the passion you won't get past track laying, if that far.
To finish a route, you have to be in love with that route (or paid to do it).

absolutely
and any SWT route is a route i am passionate about
Did anyone ever hear why the West Coastway never included any SWT stock?
Even a 423/421 in SWT colours would have been nice
Although it was just a 421 in NSE colours
so it was either wrong era for the 375 and Southern 421
or some SWT stock needed to be included

Copyright, and SWT aren't the main users of the lines.swt455 wrote:absolutely

375/7s ran along side Slammers for a long time, so it isn't inaccurate.so it was either wrong era for the 375 and Southern 421
