Reinstalled MSTS, but now it won't load my route!!!!

The MSTS 1 Route Editor can be a beast to use, but it's capable of some amazing results, here you can talk with the wizards that are building some of the fantastic routes available and learn how to make your own.

Reinstalled MSTS, but now it won't load my route!!!!

Post by oldRusty »

had to reinstall MSTS after half of tokyo-hakone disappeared :o !? i made my own route (which i have backed up elsewhere) and tried to get into route editor to do some more on it, but it just gets an error even though it says loading finished! even when it does load its just a sea of white and then it crashes.

maybe copying my back up into the route folder will make it work? i dont know, you tell me?

PS ive tried installing the updates i installed before again, still doesn't work, plus i recently installed the london-brighton route, if that changes anything...

Hi,

The thing with MSTS is that its so unstable, you only have to breathe on it to . things up. What kind of error do you get? I would use your back up and see what that does, and I dont rekon installing third party routes would cause a problem.

Make sure you have re-installed all the items you need for your route too. Such as UKFS, Xtracks, magnetic platforms, new roads etc etc (assuming you used them) Basicly, anthing you added to the MSTS global folder befor you reinstalled MSTS. Including T.Section

Hope this helps, probably didnt

L2B installs an old Tsection...that might be the problem.

It's well known that if you leave non-default routes in the Routes folder when re-installing MSTS, you will destroy them. If you restore your backup, you should be ok.

Always move non-default routes away from MSTS whilst re-installing.

Yes I believe there are some hidden global files within MSTS, possibly to do with storing terrain data, which must get over-written on reinstall.

Slightly OT but another item which came up once was, having started to build a route then deleted the route folder, did a new terrain extraction and DEM terraform - on reaching a location where I had laid track on the previous attempt the original track from the previous effort was still there under the new terrain. So while we may think all the route data is placed in the folder, in point of fact that isn't true.

If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried :)
