RE says "Error reading editor object selection file&quo

The MSTS 1 Route Editor can be a beast to use, but it's capable of some amazing results, here you can talk with the wizards that are building some of the fantastic routes available and learn how to make your own.

RE says "Error reading editor object selection file&quo

Post by mgreenland »

Sorry about this but I have looked in the tutorials and done a few searches but cannot find anything about this error message.

I recently purchased a new route and it installed and runs perfectly. However, it is a narrow gauge route built at x2 scale and I need to check the 'gravity' setting in RE (recent discussion in the Narrow Gauge forum suggests this is the way to get more accurate performance in x2 scale routes).

All my other routes load up fine in RE but this one gives the message "Error reading editor object selection file Talyllyn. ref-line:0". I reloaded the route into a different MSTS location (I have a Narrow Gauge MSTS and a Standard Gauge one) but it came up with the same error message. I have not contacted the route author because it seems fairly plain to me that this is not a route problem but an RE one.

Has anyone come across this problem and found a solution? Thanks for any suggestions.

Ive had that problwm before, usually due to a faulty .ref file

Route Riter usually finds the problem and sorts it!
It could also be something wrong the the syntax, have you edited the .ref file in anyway?

Hope that helps! :)

Thanks for the info, guys. How do I correct the ref file? I have RR and have tried to find how it might fix this problem but without success!! I might be being a bit thick!

I think you need to copy the first line of a .ref file that works and replace the one that doesnt. (Use wordpad to open the file)

Thanks Calvert. Once I started looking for a .ref file I realised that the route didn't have one! Then it clicked in what I like to call my mind what that "Make Ref" button in RR does. All sorted now. Thanks again.
