Hi,
I have modified a route and everything works fine. I then renamed the route from v2.2 to v3 in the route properties section. I then needed to add an extra speed limit sign which I did. But when I tried to save the route I got and error about the track database. I can add the sign on the backup of the route before I changed the Route Name.
Any Ideas
Puzzled
Thanks James

Hi James,
If you rename a route, say from MyRoute1 to MyRoute2, you should really rename all the associated files, along with all the entries in the .trk file
Change the .trk file name to MyRoute2.trk and within the .trk file rename every instance of MyRoute1 to MyRoute2
Then rename all the MyRoute1 files in the route's root folder such as MyRoute1.ref/.ace/.mkr/.rdb/.ref/.rit/.tdb/.tit
Also rename the folder to MyRoute2 and all should work.
(Route-Riter has an option to produce a duplicate of any route with a new name which will do all the above for you, you can then delete the original version if you wish, or leave it there as a backup).

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I have altered the route name not the route ID and comparing the old trk file the route name is the only thing that has changed. All the activities still work O.K What do these names actually mean or do?. The names on all the files are still the same as the Route ID. I have searched through various files and there is no text within any file that contains the old route name or the new one. They do contain the route ID which I have not changed.
I tried Route-riter about 6 months ago but never got past the install as it wanted to replace or modify some files from Windows and I was not happy with this. Is this normal and does it still happen in the latest version.?
Thanks and Regards James

Hi James,
Sorry about that, I was thinking you had changed the RouteID which requires the renaming of the other names. Just changing the Route Name should not make any difference to the route at all, so I do not know why you got the error you did.
The latest version of Route-Riter will not change any System files (although it only did this in the past if the one's on your PC were out of date, some files which MS provide to developers can be later ones than those which are in the Windows package).

Thanks Mike,
This has got me puzzled to. I have checked all the files within the route to find any reference to the old route name and there are none. I will give Route-Riter a try and see if it comes up with anything. I have just downloaded the latest version. I am wondering if this has got anything to do with the Route Editor rather than the route itself. Am I right in saying that the route name is just for display purposes when selecting a route in the Sim.
The actual error message I get when trying to save after an alteration is as follows :-
Failed to save track database and associated data in an O.K. box.
When I try to open the Route again in R.E. I get another message as follows
Object tile ----, -----, couldn't load track items of type speedpost marker. Delete object ( save to make final). Box yes/no
If I click yes to delete the object and then save everything is back to normal again.
Thanks and Regards James

Well i got a route i downloaded from train-sim.com and just called it SandiegoArizona which the routes actually called carrizo gorge v2.0 and works well
Renaming the route folder and not the ID wont harm anything if something goes wrong with it i just rerun the installme.bat inside the folder then hey preto the problems gone.
