Still don't understand with the problems of Route Editor

The MSTS 1 Route Editor can be a beast to use, but it's capable of some amazing results, here you can talk with the wizards that are building some of the fantastic routes available and learn how to make your own.

Still don't understand with the problems of Route Editor

Post by ImCanadian »

:o I hope that someone in this forum message can explain to me more clearly how it works after loading the DEM maps by DEMEX into Route Editor?? Now what I did with mine is to choose the map where the route will be in Route Geometry Extractor to generate tiles?? This part is no problem for me with the Route Geometry Extractor but after that I am not sure how it works next?? Anyway I download the DEM map only need one file (90 meter SRTM data) from the internet and was opened by DEMEX then load into Route Editor with no problems. Now when I am in the program of Route Editor and don't see any track lines where it will be laid on the terrain?? Am I missing something with this because I can't guess where the tracks will be laying on and I expect something will show on Route Editor or something like with the markers -- I have no ideas about the markers. All I see in the program of Route Editor is the terrain. That's my big problem to do with laying the tracks. Hope that someone can explain more clear about how to do in steps with the Route Editor?? Now I do have the book called "Step by Step Guide to Route Building" by Michael Vone also check the tutorials regularly from the internet -- Steam4me link too. Those two did not help me with this.

Thank you

Sorry, you are not missing anything, RGE tells the sim where in the world you are, Demex provides the terrain (hills).

You now have to put markers down where the track is going to go. You will need maps for this. Choose points along your track, probably good to put them every 1/4 mile or every 1/2 kilometre so that you can see from marker to marker in RE and hopefully lay your track by eye.

From your map get the coordinates of the points and convert to longitude and latitude (decimal values) and put markers at these points.

If you want to get the gradients correct you will need a gradient profile of the route, (if possible with spot heights) so that you can align the track as near as possible to the correct height and gradient.
(If you are using Demex and MSTS coordinates you can't get perfect gradients and distances because the little squares are not square!)

Have fun :) and don't forget to make back up copies of your route all the time :~
