hi
i am modifying a default route, although i do regular backups a piece of track has gone missing. when i click on to the adjacent track the message "adjacent track not loaded" shows.
Is this a recoverable position.

I had exactly this problem the other day. I got round it by either (i) saving (quickly!) and exiting then reopening RE, or (ii) adding a new piece of track to the 'adjacent track not loaded' track, then deleting both and relaying.
There's probably a better solution but these worked for me.
Hope that makes sense! Good news is that it is a recoverable position...

Thanks for your swift response. I tried the second option, sadly it did not fix the problem, not sure i understand option one.
The length of track missing is a 50 m straight. if i access the track either side i get the message "adjacent track not loaded". if i try to replace the missing track with another 50m straight the game crashes, however I can add a 5m straight, but no more , an additional 5m straight loads on top of the previous 5m straight.
Having gone over my backups, removing other tracks on the same tile seem to create my problem, however it is always the same 50m piece of track that goes awol.
Interestingly a loco runs over the gap without a problem.

You need to rebuild the track database (from advanced options) when loading the route.
However be advised if you are attempting to do this on a route with interactives already installed you can cause serious damage to the database. That can lead to vector errors where the programme decides adjacent pieces of track or road aren't touching (even when they are) which are even harder to get rid of. If it is a route that uses linked signals you will lose all the information.
My advice would be to backup any third party routes etc you have collected then reinstall MSTS to recover the corrupted route then leave well alone. Many routes teeter on a knife edge of reliabilty and the slightest attempt to modify them can undo the sticking plaster, default routes no exception.

So if you have done a tdb with interactive installed, and they remain, is it worth deleting all interactives and doing a tdb rebuild?

If it works alright you might get away with it. The only way to find out if you've broken the interactives is to do another tdb rebuild and see if any vector errors appear. (After backing up first).
I'm not sure whether removing the interactives and doing a tdb rebuild would have the same effect as doing one before the interactives were installed, I'm not that technically familiar with how the tdb rebuild process works.
However the general advice to route builders remains don't place any interactives until you've finished rail and road placement plus terrain mods/terrtex placement which I have found can kick track sections out.

Well the route runs and edits ok, but when I check the route in route riter i get 505 tdb erorrs. I did a sucessful tdb rebuild recently.
I know I shouldn't edit track and road after placing interactives but im effectively extending a route which was belived to be finished...
