The Grassington Branch
Hi there,
I am starting to build the Grassington Branch in UKFS.
I've read a few posts here and there and was wondering has anyone built it, or is anyone in the process of building it?
I have started to building Grassington station trackwork, however I'm doing a test run to get my head around it, I havent done the terrain yet, I will try and get that done within the next couple of weeks.
If anyone has done the branch could they please get in contact with me with and info or anything, if they are happy to of course!
My initial plan is to build the Skipton- Grassington Branch.
There is however the possibility of builing the Skipton- Ilkley via Embsay Line, however this is only a maybe.
As it stands I plan to release it as free where, probably as a download, however if it includes the Embsay line it might not be free where, and the proceds could go to the Embsay-Bolton Abbey railway, however I would need to get in contact with them over that.
Any info would be greatly apprecated,
Thanks,
Calvert.

This is a route that I thought about for my first attempt at route building, but I ended up doing the Coniston branch insetad.
Anyway, I've got a few photos and bits and pieces of information kicking about somewhere, so if you want to drop me a pm with your e-mail address, I'll see what I can turn up.
Regards,
David Varley

Hi Calvert!
I'm currently just starting out on my first Route: Skipton to Colne, (including the Barnoldswick Branch). Looks like we may be meeting up in Skipton station in the future! LOL
I had considered including the Grassington branch on my route, but instead I am intending to press on Westwards through Burnley into Blackburn, eventually joining the WCML at Lostock Hall. That is WAY in the future though, as at present I'm just starting to lay track on Skipton-Colne! Spent the past few weeks building marker file and DEM'ing (what a pain getting things to fit where they belong!).
If I have any stuff relevant to your section, I'd be happy to let you have it! I'll PM you if I come up with anything...OK?
Good Luck!

I'm using UKFS on the Coniston branch - if you do a search, there are a few screenshots kicking about, though they're all very much work in progress.
As for Skipton, I'm sure I'll be able to turn up some plans, though I'm not sure how detailed they'll be.
I should be in touch later this week.
Regards,
David Varley

Hi David!
Yes, just got your email (and the one the other day!). Thanks.
I've got an interesting observation or two concerning Foulridge 7!!!
Calvert:
I'm using UKFS too, as it looks much better than the default MSTS track. I agree about Skipton....looks pretty daunting but I'm hoping that everything will just "flow" once I get there! (Ever the optimist, eh?). I decided to start at Earby, working my way in both directions (well, three if you count Barlick branch too), rather than get bogged down with the layouts at Skipton or Colne "ends", my reasoning being that once I've got a large chunk of track laid in the middle, I'll be more determined to do the hard work at the ends!
Hopefully I should have some VERY early screenshots in a couple of weeks!
Regards,
Dave H.

I've now done the terrain creating, looks splendid now!
Thanks to David for all the info, you have saved me literally hours of work in research!
I will soon be track laying, stating at Grassington and working my way down the branch.
As I said I am dreading the Skipton Section of the line, but that’s a way away yet!
On that note is there anyone willing to do any building work on the route?
This would include;
Stations
Houses
Railway related buildings
The Swinden Lime Works <-----A Big One!
If anybody is willing to do this, please send me a pm, any help, big or small is greatly appreciated!
I will try and get some screenshots in the near future, lets see how it goes first.
Thanks again,
Mark Calvert.

Hi Mark!
Have you had a good look at some of the buildings etc., that have been used on other Routes? There are probably a LOT that you could use on Grassington Branch, with only maybe a few "tweaks". Obviously, if you DO decide to use them, then don't forget to "credit" the designer in your final route!
I'm trying to build my Route using readily-available scenery at first, then changing certain buildings for "custom" models where it is visually necessary!
Good Luck!
Dave Heald
(I know what you mean about Swinden Limeworks....I used to be Bar Manager of the Devonshire Arms Hotel at Cracoe (not the Bolton Abbey one!) from 1990 to 1992)

I will be using a LOT of ready made buildings!
However, I can't find a Swinden Lime Works buildings, so I will have no choice on that one!
If there anyone out there wanting to build it, please get in contact with me ASAP!
Houses will not be a problem really, but some other buildings might prove intresting!
We will soon see!

Im definatly going to Grassington tommorow, I was planning on going to the Steam Railway, but they have a teddy bear event!
Ill be off to Grassington by bus, then walking down to Threshfield, Ill go down the old trackbed if I can, get pictures of the lime works, head down to Carcoe, (pint stop!) move down to Rylstone, and do the rest by bus!
Then hopefully there may be time for another pint in Skipton!
My cameras charged up and fully loaded, so I'll have lots of photos!
Its the summer holidays, and I havnt got much A-Level work to do, so I'll get some buildings done and some screenies posted!

Memories, memories!!!head down to Carcoe, (pint stop!)
I was Bar Manager at the Devonshire Arms in Cracoe from 1990 to 1992.
Nice place, good pint, decent food! (well, it was then!)
The Angel at Hetton (just by the level crossing) is good too, but a tad pricey.
Have a good day....we're off to the NYM on Tuesday!
