Registering TS Tools II ?

The MSTS 1 Route Editor can be a beast to use, but it's capable of some amazing results, here you can talk with the wizards that are building some of the fantastic routes available and learn how to make your own.

Registering TS Tools II ?

Post by edfielden »

Hi all,

I did post this to the TSTools forum yesterday, but I'm not very hopeful of a reply any time soon from there, so I thought I'd post here too.

I took a look at the free version of TSTools II for the first time recently (I've been away from TrainSim for quite a while now) and am really interested in using it to terraform my route, noticing it has the 'background free placement' feature meaning I can make my route exactly to scale and distortion-free.

I though I'd better check these forums before registering, and I've read some worrying messages suggesting that even if you've paid for a registration key, you might not get one...

In the light of this, does anyone reckon it's safe to send off the money? :-?

I'm wanting to get on with terraforming as soon as possible, so any help or advice would be welcome!

I remember there was a short period ( a day or so) when there was some sort of delay.....but that was ages ago and I think it was due to a genuine unavoidable problem.

I purchased TSTools after that time and I got a reg key by return of email.

There certainly was never a problem of them supplying you with a Key Code by return after parting with your dosh... it's the poor (or total lack of) after sales service that is my gripe.

Also the fact that if you have to reinstall, you need a new keycode and it seems to be difficult to get that as well. I'm just praying I don't lose or have any serious problem with my TST2 install on the laptop, as if it goes so does my MSTS route building.

No way could I go back to converting co-ordinates off the map for markers and hand making terrain.

If TST is to continue as a commercial entity then a robust after sales service needs to be in place. Otherwise, particularly if there is only light demand, the author(s) need to consider whether it should be released as freeware or abandonware, i.e. remove the licensing restrictions.

To avoid any confusion, this is not a rant at a commercial company, but a polite request that a concern which has sold software to customers ensures some system is in place to ensure those who have bought the product may continue to use it.

I just hope that whatever else the TMTS offers, facilities such as direct DEM import, map importation and contour tracing, marker generation etc. will be an integral part of the supplied editor.

Just curious, but have you received your code yet?

Hi guys!
I'm also getting a bit concerned about this. I sent off my PayPal payment for TSTools II this week, and heard back NOTHING yet! I can understand it somewhat if the people running DCM are having problems with ISP's or servers or whatever, but ANYONE selling a "Commercial" product should be a lot more "on-the-ball" than this.
I'm wondering what would be the next "step" to take, should the worst come to the worst, and NO Code be forthcoming?
I've tried PMs to "MindtheDoors", both on here and also in the DCM Forum.

Ah well...looks like I'm going to have to be more patient! At least I've not waited 5 WEEKS.....yet! :o

Nope - still no word. I sent off a small e-mail last night to see if I could get a response, but absolutely nothing yet. It certainly is rather worrying. :(

Not necessarily. If you place scanned maps as background in TSTools it does allow you to digitse an accurate marker file, but when you export that to MSTS it will be distorted because MSTS doesn't use the same projection system as your maps. As a result, distances and therefore gradients will still be inaccurate, I'm afraid.

As I understand it, though, if you use that feature using the 'Map default projection' in TSTools, the distances on the 'ground' in MSTS (2048m x 2048m tiles) will be the same as those on the map (which, admittedly, itself is just very slightly distorted by its own projection).

If I've read the user guide correctly, the 'background free placement' feature was designed for just such a purpose.

Has the monies been taken from your account? If so, this is all getting rather serious.

Yes, I paid by PayPal so the money was taken straightaway. :(
The name that's given in the transaction details is "Anthony Billings" - does that sound correct?

I've re-sent my e-mail to them asking when I'll receive the code, so I'll wait til Monday or Tuesday before I try again. :(
