I have been working for some weeks on my Kenyan NG route, testing each addition to the route by running trains from the terminus (southwards). I have just reached the first station and created a path to run north from this point. Now every time a northbound train reaches one point MSTS crashes. Travelling south is no trouble. If a southbound train passes the trouble spot and reverses the problem strikes again. Route Editor doesn't like the place either and gives the tell Microsoft about your problem message if you hang around there too long.
The position is not a tile boundary and I am very puzzled, not to say anxious as I have laid miles of track past this place and am loath to do any more work on the route.
Andrew Gadd posted a similar problem 6 months ago but I can't see any response - any fresh ideas anyone?

Route crashes one direction but not the other

If it was a problem with the track database or a vector error then it should affect both directions (unless it is a double track line). Ditto if it was a missing or corruped shape/texture file. Might be worth checking if the paths show correctly in Activity Editor. If all else fails then back up the route and attempt a track database rebuild, assuming you haven't yet placed any interactives such as signals, speed limits and platform etc markers.

I know of two causes of the crash you describe:
1) A shape with a zero polygon LOD level.
2) A path that ends with a switch node (ie. the switch blade end of a turnout). The path works when driving away from the node, but not towards it (ie. when driving the other way or reversing).
Your crash may be neither, but thats a starting point.

Thanks for the replies.
I am trying the TsUtils option at the moment, but am having a problem getting my machine to run it - MSCOREE.DLL, which is (I gather) part of .NET, is not to be found.
I reverted to an older version, which extends a mile or 2 beyond the crisis point although 3 or 4 miles short of the first station, and trains run happily up and down for the whole length. This older version has the same scenery objects as the faulty one, and the same turnout configuration at the northern end, so I am still very puzzled RE will save the problem version of the route, but then crashes when I exit.

Good news - I have finally run a train northwards over the whole length of the route, RE does not crash under any combination of cirumstances, but I am not sure what I have done. I still can't run TsUtils - is it possible to do so under Win98 anyway?
I have removed a few trees and a building - all of which were present in the route a week ago when all was well, and ran RouteRiter5.xx check route which reported no errors, so I tried the route again and everything seems to work - though I haven't tried running south !
Thanks for your help
