Why does my route not appear in Train sim

The MSTS 1 Route Editor can be a beast to use, but it's capable of some amazing results, here you can talk with the wizards that are building some of the fantastic routes available and learn how to make your own.

Yes, you need a path to be able to explore.

Just go into the activity editor, File New, pick your route, create a player service, create the path here.

You should be able to figure it if you've figured the route editor..

Thanks ....I think I got it now !

:D ----Thanks V much ...I think I have got it now...although I still dont seem to get the automatically generated "Explore route" that I have read about.
I seem to have to have a "Basic" activity which appears below the "Explore route" in Train sim.
One other problem I seem to be having
Is that when I first lay some track it seems to be a foot or so above ground (sort of floating) yet if I exit back to desktop and then re-launch RE the next bits of track I lay are flat on the ground and slope up and join to the "floating" bits.
Maybe I is a bit fick innit.... :-? im sure it will all become clear.

PS. The tutorials at http://www.railpage.org.au/steam4me/trainsim/tutorials/
are a great help, very useful

explore route is not a generated activitiy - its what you can pick from the list above all the activities.

Sounds odd about track automatically sloping, it normally starts off flat. You can press Y to make the gound reach the track, by way of embankment or cutting. Or for an unattached peice use the move tool to move it up or down. Or rotate to the correct orentation. For an attached piece, the only rotation you can do is up/down to set the gradient.

Sounds odd...?

:o
It does seem odd but I can assure you that is what happened.
I only noticed that the track was raised above the ground when I tested it in Train sim and the loco went down the slope onto the level section.
Im very new to all this so I am sure that it is something I have done wrong.
If I need to test a route sometimes while it is being built, do I have to delete and remake an activity each time I test it ?

You should be able to reuse the existing activity - though if you delete track or insert junctions where none were before, it can break the path - fixing the path is quite straightforward - there is a tutorial on here about it.

Route testing

Post by felixbicycle »

So can I, for example, lay a short section of track and make an activity and test, then go back add more track onto the end of it or some scenery and re-use activity?
Its all rather complex for a newbie. :o
The built in help files dont tell the whole story ....!

Oh no ....not more

Not meaning to waffle on about the same thing....But the floating track thing turned out to be a slight depression in the terrain when I thought it was flat and the shadows of loco in the Sim gave the impression of floating track....... :-? DER
