I thought the east suffolk was still double as far as Woodbridge. Probably a single-lead junction though.

The Swing Bridges at Reedham and Somerleyton on the Norwich to Lowestoft line, and the one at Oulton Broad on the Lowestoft to Ipswich line all still work and are opened quite regularly, especially during the summer when their are a lot of Yatchs, and larger motor boats, aswell as tour boats. The one at Oulton Broad probably gets most use as it allows access from the broads to the sea and therefore the larger sea going boats require it to be open. Passing through is very complicated though and requires quite good timing as aswell as the railway bridge their is also a lifting road bridge and a lifting foot bridge aswell as a lock, and a further lifting road bridge carrying the busy A12 further along at Lowestoft. The other swing bridge is the one at Trowse on the Norwich to London line, and this sees little use due to having quite good clearances and their being much less river traffic up that way. I think network rail did seal it up at one point but had to reopen it due to pressure from river users.

Your right about Nitwit rail sealing Trowse up, this was mainly due to almost every time it was opened it wouldnt close correctly, effectivly closing Norwich station to all traffic except the Lowestoft, Gt Yarmouth & Sherringham branches!

I was beginning to wonder how Jur was getting on with this myself - but I believe he's one of these strange folks who has a life outside MSTS... :-?

A relocation to Australia may have a little to do with it!

I just popped in to browse the Forums. I'm afraid that the ESR hasn't made any progress since Christmas, mainly due to a relocation and related changes. It still exists in its unfinished state, but I don't know if and when I will be picking it up again.

The trackwork is completed from Gt Yarmouth South Town all the way to Ipswich, but that is where it came to a halt. I spent several full days trying to lay Ipswich, but it is very difficult to lay UK Finescale trackwork for large station layouts in curves, and I haven't been able to produce anything remotely realistic. Beccles was hard enough and Ipswich is an order of magnitude up from that.

This is not to say that ESR is dead, but I can't say when I will be able to report more progress. There is no point working on the route unless I can crack Ipswich.

I am tinkering with a few totally different small scale projects but again, nothing concrete at this stage.

It's a lot easier now we have dynatrax and additional curved UKFS turnouts.

Nice to see you again, Jur....

Pity about the tracklaying troubles; maybe Dynatrax might help as Steve suggests.

Still, life has this horrible habit of interfering with Trainsimming, doesn't it?

I live in a little village out in the sticks called Aldeby, near Haddiscoe, about 100 yards from an old crossing cottage, and about half a mile from the Waveney, 4 miles out of Beccles.
Photos of the Aldeby section where the beccles line ran pre-1959 any good? all the crossing cottages still exist, the station ( now a garage called Bennetts ) the embankment is still there as is the central "mount" or whatever it's called, for the old swing bridge, over the Waveney to Beccles, similar to the one at reedham. You can come visit, bring a camera, the wife makes good coffee :)

P.S. in case there's any confusion I live right on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, I know Beccles well and Lowestoft.

Hi I wonder if this site is of any use for the Yarmouth end of thre route? The site contains many photo's & some track plans. Also my in-laws live at Burgh Castle & I visit them quite often, so if you need any research or photo's taking, let me know.
