Settle & Carlise Route

The MSTS 1 Route Editor can be a beast to use, but it's capable of some amazing results, here you can talk with the wizards that are building some of the fantastic routes available and learn how to make your own.

Settle & Carlise Route

Post by chronograph »

Hi All

Has anybody tried to rebuild the Settle & Carlise line? or tried resignalling it?? because i think an updated version with correct signals, (with gantries, brackets, ground signals, etc...) would be great!

Also i was watching "Mark Williams On The Rails" On Discovery Home & Leisure, the other day, and it was about power and speed, and it said that GWR Trains only ran through the south of the UK, but on the Settle & Carlise Route, one of the default trains is the "Pendennis Castle" so would GWR trains have ran up that far north? Or is it just a mistake?? :-?

Thanx :D

Two out of three default trains never ran in revenue service on the S&C - it was a Midland line, so you might have seen a Royal Scot occasionally.

What do you call 'correct signals'?

If you mean modernising to colour lights, then you also need to single much of the line, improve the buildings, modernise the stations update the road traffic and sounds - not a simple job.

If you mean that the existing signalling is incorrect for the thirties, you may be right - I wouldn't know, I'm not that old - but you're welcome to try to change it; just be sure you do it on a copy....

Hi Chronograph

Pat Dalton has two excellent CD's available covering the Settle & Carlisle Line

## Skipton to Carlisle 1920(A completely new version of the Route)

## The Midland Railway Settle and Carlisle Route (A modified version of the original MSTS and Kuju Route)

These two are highly recommended and there are numerous Activities both on the CD's and on UKTS

Kindest Regards

Mike

I've just checked the CD page and neither of these is listed. Does Pat have another page where they are available?

Agreed - Skipton-Carlisle is a UK classic, full of lovely detail and plenty of stock. It is my standard UK 'broad gauge' route but I'm afraid I do use it for non-prototypical trains: if you peer over my shoulder you may see a Claud Hamilton thrashing through Garsdale Road trailing 7 GER bogies, or even a BAP Pacific simmering at Skipton! It's definitely my yardstick.

As someone who bought MSTS purely to run S&C 1920, I can't praise the detail work too highly.

Does the team which produced it have anything else in the pipeline?

Sorry to say no, my friend Malcolm Roper is no longer with us, Paul Mitchell is snowed under with work from his job and has not the time to donate to MSTS, the other guys who contributed to the route are all doing their own thing.

I would like to extend the route or do a completely new one, but I will be 75 on my next birthday and do not feel like like sitting for months on end in front of the computer.

At present I am playing around "trying" to do some activities for a single line route and that I find much more difficult than route building.........
Regards.

Thans for the update. If you don't produce anything else (and I hope you do) at least you have the satisfaction of knowing that you brought an inordinate amount of pleasure to some (probably a lot) of us.

Thanks.

I have a modern version of the S&C that was done a couple of years ago by IKB. It's basically the default route with modern signals, a few minor changes to the track layout in places and a few changes to the speed limits.

If you're on broadband drop me a PM and I'll send it to you if you like.

You could always try Burgenland.

It's a modern German version of the S&C.

Looks VERY different.
