HI all,
tracklaying is almost complete on NBR! (Touching wood).......
things are taking a little longer now, i just don't seem to get the time!
I am pleased to announce that I am now 3 miles from Carlisle!
I decided it was pointless ending at Hawick, so the metals now run
to Carlisle! It will be some time until I get the trackwork laid here
tho, not least since I have no info yet!
Anyway, to the question.....
I am toying with putting in two proposed but never built line extensions:
from Gifford to Garvald and thence the ECML, and from Gullane to North Berwick. This would provide even more flexibility for operations,
although not strictly authentic. Yes or no, anyone?
NBR - Answers please!!

Please excuse a beginner's query, but does the tempting prospect now emerge , with a bit of wizardry, of being able to run an MR train to Carlisle (S&C 1920), then a NBR train on the Waverkley route?anamorph wrote: I am pleased to announce that I am now 3 miles from Carlisle!

As someone who saw steam at its peak (1955 at a school camp) in the Hawick area, I've always admired the little NBR 4-4-0s with their names painted on the splashers!
I see no reason to suppose that these machines will ever force themselves into general use - The Duke of Wellington on steam locomotives, 1825.

Yes, indeed it does.
This is why I decided to continue to Carlisle. The effort of getting to Hawick
from Edinburgh seemed pointless without continuing...... the route will
take some time to finish however, as Im not getting much time on it at the moment, and I need to research the Carlisle approaches etc.

There is a distinct lack of NBR stock actually! Mind you, my test train of a Deltic and 12 Mk1's struggles a bit up to Falahill and Whitrope, I wonder how an Atlantic with 14 NBR/MR mixed coaches on board will cope?
As an update, I will post new screenies soon to the fotopic site.
At present I am planning a fair bit of fiddling around before I start Carlisle,
and I need to remove a lot of excess tiles to save space. I tried a
merge of the default s and c route with mine the other week (minus the track) but the terrain is to pot between the two - it doesn't look right at all.
I am using the free DEM, and I have got a test S and C built as a standalone (terrain only) and it looks quite nice (albeit sparse). Although it seems a bit much I am considering further extension past Carlisle, I will
only think about this once the hard stuff is finished. It;s getting to the stage now where Im thinking about modelling buildings etc, for which I need to train myself, so I need to reign myself in a bit!
